World On Fire by John Hall

Since the 1970s, John Hall’s been in the public eye fighting for our environment.  He sent me a story from the Washington Post with the headline, "Siberia’s wildfires are bigger than all the world’s other blazes combined."  One of the coldest places in the world is now one of the hottest places, pumping huge amounts of carbon into our atmosphere.

Here's his song, “World On Fire”

Orleans opened for Bob Marley & the Wailers early in the group’s career, because of their reggae roots.

This summer, our planet’s dealt with extreme weather conditions — from drought and fires in Southern Europe, Russia and North America to severe flooding in Western Europe, Africa and Asia.

John posted on his Facebook, “Ok, It ain’t pretty but we can keep it from the worst case scenario only if everybody helps. No more denial, no more foot dragging. There are things each of us can do.” From walking more and recycling our shopping bags, turning “off power strips so our electronics don't stay on absorbing electricity while we're out of the house. Be willing to sacrifice our convenience or comfort a little bit so our children and grandchildren have a chance. And by the way, don't vote for any candidate who doesn't take this crisis seriously.”

World On Fire

John Hall

World on Fire, One Desire

Love your sister and brother, love for one another

Love

World On Fire, Jah inspire

Love for your sister and brother, love for one another

Love

Let’s talk to each other like we don’t do right now

Talk to each other if we still remember how

What you and I are thinking we will never ever learn

In isolation

Frustration burns

World on Fire, One Desire

Love your sister and brother, love for one another

Love

World On Fire (Selfish cries), Jah inspire (no soul disguise)

Love for your sister and brother, love for one another

Love

Talking about hurling flame and smoke into the void

Talk about a thousand million creatures’ lives destroyed

Talk about air too thick with smoke and ash to breathe

Talk about destruction

Too much to grieve

World on Fire (conflagrations), One Desire (talk among nations)

Love your sister and brother, love for one another

Love

World On Fire (strife and treason), Jah inspire (an age of reason)

Love for your sister and brother, love for one another

Love

World on Fire (cry for freedom), One Desire (Jah knows we need it)

Love your sister and brother, love for one another

Love

World On Fire

Jah inspire

Love for your sister and brother love for one another, Love…

MOTHERS SPACE
By Kelly Keeling, Carmine Appice, Tony Franklin

VERSE I
We’re dodging all the raking
Of thunder and lightning,
Designing in our path by our
Winters so cold

Everyone it seems should be
Given sign language
Some form of code
Not getting through
Waiting on you.

VERSE II
We know you’re listening to Mother’s Space.
How much longer?
Longer in this zone and being in this rat race
What on earth are we preparing for
Contemplated
Running our space
Too little too late

VERSE III
Thanks for all the rescue
And saving our lives
Poisoning we’ve done to
The ground and skies

SOLO

Something’s gonna break
I believe that it timely
Mother earth
How can we go on
Blue we’re counting on you
We’re not getting through
Depending on you

Don’t look away
Mothers space
Mothers space Answer Mothers Space
Are we too late  Answer Are we too late

BRITISH ROCKERS ASIA ANNOUNCE GRAND PRIZE WINNER

New Mexico Fan’s Video for “An Extraordinary Life”
Selected by ASIA as Song’s Official Online Music Video

In what may be an exciting new case of “life imitating art,” the acclaimed British rock super-group, ASIA has announced Doug Purdy of Albuquerque, New Mexico, as the grand prizewinner of the band’s QuickTime music video contest for “An Extraordinary Life.” The video contest was launched by the band, its label, and strategic partners as a new initiative between ASIA and its fans. For the contest, (which was hosted by www.asiavideocontest.com), ASIA fans were invited by the band, in partnership with QuickTime, to create their own music videos for “Extraordinary Life,” a track from ASIA’s new EMI America Records album, PHOENIX.

The song was designed to celebrate the positive aspects and memories in everyone’s life, and encourages the listener to “Carp Diem;” living every day to the fullest. The song was written by ASIA members John Wetton and Geoff Downes in direct response to Wetton’s recent successful recovery from open heart surgery. Purdy’s video, like many others entered into the contest, contains personal home video footage and photos interspersed with footage of ASIA performing the song, for unique interactive experience.

“This was a unique way of connecting with our fans, via the web,” says Carl Palmer, drummer. “It was interesting to see the type of images our fans thought could fit the song, itself.”

As the contest’s top prizewinner, Purdy has also won an Apple MacBook AIR laptop, custom etched with ASIA’s logo. In addition, his creative video has been selected as the song’s official online music video by ASIA’s Geoff Downes, Steve Howe, Carl Palmer and John Wetton. The video is featured at ASIA’s official websites, www.myspace.com/asia and www.originalasia.com.

PHOENIX, ASIA’s first studio album since 1983 with all four original members, was released in North America on April 15, 2008 by EMI America Records. Since 1982, ASIA has sold more than 15 million albums, and the band recently completed its latest 52-city world tour (the third since the band re-formed in 2006) to support the global release of PHOENIX.
