Marshall Crenshaw Historical Release Out August 27

The Wild, Exciting Sounds of Marshall Crenshaw:
Live In The 20th and 21st Century

Sunset Blvd. Records is proud to release The Wild, Exciting Sounds of Marshall Crenshaw: Live In The 20th and 21st Century, a two-disc live retrospective of the acclaimed songwriter/performer’s work from the early 1980s to date.  The album is due out August 27, 2021.

Whether you’ve been a Crenshaw fan for 40 years or know little beyond “Someday, Someway,” this 2 CD set is a revelation. Disc one, recorded in 1982 and 1983, is filled with performances from radio shows in New York, Boston and New Jersey, and focuses largely on songs from his self-titled debut album and the follow-up, Field Day.

“It was such a cool band, with Chris Donato, me and Robert, and our brother John hitting the orchestra bells and the tambourine and whatever else he had up there; it sounds like kids having fun.”

Disc two, which Marshall curated himself, is a sampler of his work from the last 25 years, featuring live versions of songs that appeared on many different albums and EPs.  On six tracks Marshall Crenshaw is ably backed by The Bottle Rockets, featuring the off-the-chain guitar stylings of John Horton, and Brian Hennemen (and M.C. himself).

The package comes complete with detailed liner notes, written by Marshall, and many never- before-seen photos from over the years and decades.

Jann is looking forward to sharing this ride with his fans and friends. “Love You The Most,” his duet with Alicia Madison, is still on the Media Base’s Hot AC and Top 40 radio charts after four months; it’s been streamed over 3.5 million times!  The song, (which previews the Amazon movie "Married Young") broke the Top 50, and inspired Voice of America’s Larry London to invite the two to be interviewed on his “Border Crossings” radio show heard all over the world.

This multi-Independent Music Award (IMA)-winning pop singer-songwriter has released six albums and two EPs. He was raised in Kenya, South Africa, Germany and the United States, and has performed on those continents plus in Asia through the years. Jann is an ambassador for Desmond Tutu's TutuDesk campaign and Brick by Brick Uganda. He is the singing voice of Tim Buckley in the movie "Greetings from Tim Buckley" (Tribeca Films / Universal).

Singers enjoy working with Jann. Signed to South Africa’s legendary Gallo Records, his most recent album, “In Tandem” includes duets with some of South Africa’s leading pop-singer-songwriters including coaches from that country’s “The Voice.” He’s toured there since 2015, first as an independent artist. Recently, Jann sang with Liz Callaway on her recent “Comfort and Joy – An Acoustic Christmas” album.

At the Bitter End show, Jann will perform both fan favorites and new songs for his upcoming 2022 album, including co-writes with Alex Forbes (known for Taylor Dayne’s “Don’t Rush Me,” and hits in South Africa). Onstage, Jann will be joined by guitarist Michael Also and special guest singers Brooke Matza and Ms. Madison; her dance music hit “Toxic Rain” hit number 1 on the Billboard Dance charts. Alicia’s 2019 EDM single “In and Out” streamed 10 million times on Spotify.

World On Fire by John Hall

Since the 1970s, John Hall’s been in the public eye fighting for our environment.  He sent me a story from the Washington Post with the headline, "Siberia’s wildfires are bigger than all the world’s other blazes combined."  One of the coldest places in the world is now one of the hottest places, pumping huge amounts of carbon into our atmosphere.

Here's his song, “World On Fire”

Orleans opened for Bob Marley & the Wailers early in the group’s career, because of their reggae roots.

This summer, our planet’s dealt with extreme weather conditions — from drought and fires in Southern Europe, Russia and North America to severe flooding in Western Europe, Africa and Asia.

John posted on his Facebook, “Ok, It ain’t pretty but we can keep it from the worst case scenario only if everybody helps. No more denial, no more foot dragging. There are things each of us can do.” From walking more and recycling our shopping bags, turning “off power strips so our electronics don't stay on absorbing electricity while we're out of the house. Be willing to sacrifice our convenience or comfort a little bit so our children and grandchildren have a chance. And by the way, don't vote for any candidate who doesn't take this crisis seriously.”

World On Fire

John Hall

World on Fire, One Desire

Love your sister and brother, love for one another

Love

World On Fire, Jah inspire

Love for your sister and brother, love for one another

Love

Let’s talk to each other like we don’t do right now

Talk to each other if we still remember how

What you and I are thinking we will never ever learn

In isolation

Frustration burns

World on Fire, One Desire

Love your sister and brother, love for one another

Love

World On Fire (Selfish cries), Jah inspire (no soul disguise)

Love for your sister and brother, love for one another

Love

Talking about hurling flame and smoke into the void

Talk about a thousand million creatures’ lives destroyed

Talk about air too thick with smoke and ash to breathe

Talk about destruction

Too much to grieve

World on Fire (conflagrations), One Desire (talk among nations)

Love your sister and brother, love for one another

Love

World On Fire (strife and treason), Jah inspire (an age of reason)

Love for your sister and brother, love for one another

Love

World on Fire (cry for freedom), One Desire (Jah knows we need it)

Love your sister and brother, love for one another

Love

World On Fire

Jah inspire

Love for your sister and brother love for one another, Love…
