The soulful blues rocking duo of Magic Dick (the legendary harmonica player for Boston's legendary J. Geils Band) and guitarist/vocal sensation Shun Ng EP is called ABOUT TIME.
Since 1969, Magic Dick has toured the world playing and blowing away clubs and stadiums with the J. Geils Band. But he heard Shun Ng’s album, FUNKY THUMB STUFF, and wanted a musical collaboration with the upcoming musician, “Shun’s sound simply made me feel very alive and induced in me a synchronous alignment of musical DNA as if it was his intention as well as mine all along!”
Shun Ng is an award-winning fingerstyle guitar virtuoso, singer and songwriter, known for his unique style which infuses elements of Soul, Funk, Blues and Jazz. He’s won praise from legendary producer, Quincy Jones, who says, “I was simply blown away by both his soul and his science – his creativity and his uniqueness is astounding.” Shun is a recipient of the Songwriters Hall of Fame 'Holly Prize' and winner of 'International Artist of The Year' at the Boston Music Awards.

Manifesto Records is proud to announce that their 12-CD Box Set release by the late Allan Holdsworth, The Man Who Changed Guitar Forever, has been nominated as Reissue of the Year for the 2017 Progressive Music Awards.
The nominations are announced in the new issue of Prog, (on sale June 30). The voting is open for everybody at www.progmagazine.com/awards.
Voting runs until August 23.
The Progressive Music Awards will be held on September 14 at London's Underglobe beneath Shakespeare's Globe Theatre on London’s Southbank.
The 12-CD set, The Man Who Changed Guitar Forever was released in April by Los Angeles, CA-based Manifesto Records. Manifesto referenced the box set’s seemingly portentous title from the cover story article featuring Holdsworth in Guitar Player magazine’s April 2008 edition.

Los Angeles, CA-based Manifesto Records will release a new, complete 12-CD box set by guitar innovator, jazz, and progressive rock legend Allan Holdsworth titled The Man Who Changed Guitar Forever, along with a 2-CD updated and expanded “best of” collection selected by the artist, titled Eidolon.
Manifesto Records referenced the box set’s seemingly portentous title from the cover story title featuring Holdsworth in Guitar Player magazine’s April 2008 edition. Given his humble nature, Holdsworth is a bit embarrassed by the title and finds the notion that he changed “guitar forever,” somewhat overblown—more befitting of names like Orville Gibson, Leo Fender, or Ned Steinberger.
Holdsworth, born in Bradford England in 1946, embarked on a solo career as composer and bandleader exclusively in 1979. Holdsworth’s career as producer, bandleader, and lead composer is documented in this box set, and with the artist’s 28-track selection of favorites in Eidolon. Both packages include extensive liner notes, and an updated 2016 interview with Holdsworth discussing each release, his history, and approach to the instrument.
From 1982 through 2003, Holdsworth recorded a dozen albums that have been lovingly put together for The Man Who Changed Guitar Forever collection. Featured on the box set are eleven remastered studio albums, starting with the 1982 studio release, Allan Holdsworth, I.O.U., and the archival 2003 live release, Then!, recorded live in Tokyo in 1990. All feature additional bonus tracks added for special editions or the original Japan releases, along with the original artwork and studio credits. Also included are the Grammy-nominated Road Games, (1983), Metal Fatigue (1985), Sand (1987), Secrets (1989), Wardenclyffe Tower (1992), Hard Hat Area (1993), None Too Soon (1996), The Sixteen Men of Tain (2000), and Flat Tire: Music for a Non-Existent Movie (2001).

He worked with former Yes and King Crimson drummer, Bill Bruford’s first solo project, Feels Good To Me, and subsequent recordings with Jean-Luc Ponty, and Gong. Bruford suggested Allan for the progressive-rock “supergroup,” U.K., which, along with Bruford, also featured John Wetton and Eddie Jobson. Both The Man Who Changed Guitar Forever and Eidolon will become precious to those who love the world’s great guitarists. Fans of deeply unique, sonically rich and pristine recordings of great musicians taking their music to the next level and beyond, will also be in awe of these collections.

Blackmore’s Night vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Candice Night says, “There’s a theme to ALL OUR YESTERDAYS’ chosen songs that focuses on the attitude of living in the present, and looking toward the future, because we are, indeed, enriched by our past. My main theme and inspiration has always been nature and folklore from around the world.”
Candice Night and Ritchie Blackmore’s lives and creative journeys have taken them through different characters and songs from a variety of times in history. That is part of the attitude in the song "Where Are We Going from Here,” about a traveling minstrel’s journey through life and age.
The title track (and also the first single and video), “All Our Yesterdays” echoes the sounds of Candice’s Russian roots, while a new song written by Germany’s George Hesse is an old-style, fiddle-driven instrumental with the Welsh title “Allan yn y Fan” (meaning “Out There”). Ritchie’s heritage includes family from Wales.
The album also includes stunning instrumentals: the acoustic guitar piece, “Queen’s Lament” and the dramatic “The Darker Shade of Black” that spotlights violin and guitar.
Elsewhere on the recording, “Earth Wind and Sky” is a delicate ode to nature. “The Other Side,” a latter-day folk dance joins two jigs that Candice sings: “Coming Home” and the supernatural-themed, “Will o’ the Wisp.”
ALL OUR YESTERDAYS gets further inspiration from Candace and Ritchie’s home town, where they take part in community folk nights during which the neighbors share guitars and songs, and sing melodies that have come from a variety of times in their own history. That’s how they fell in love with songs of various radio formats of years gone by. The album includes the Linda Ronstadt hit “Long Long Time” (penned by Gary White); the Mike Oldfield song, “Moonlight Shadow;” and an inspiring Maypole Dance treatment of Sonny & Cher’s “I Got You Babe.”
Blackmore’s Night is a true musical and spiritual collaboration between vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Candice Night and her husband, legendary guitarist Ritchie Blackmore. The two met in 1989 when Deep Purple challenged Candice’s then radio station to a charity soccer match. In 1993 she sang on Rainbow’s DIFFICULT TO CURE tour. They co-wrote four songs for Rainbow’s STRANGER IN US ALL and in 1997 they formed Blackmore’s Night; they continue to play Faire Festivals all over the world.

Blackmore’s Night vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Candice Night says, “There’s a theme to ALL OUR YESTERDAYS’ chosen songs that focuses on the attitude of living in the present, and looking toward the future, because we are, indeed, enriched by our past. My main theme and inspiration has always been nature and folklore from around the world.”
Candice Night and Ritchie Blackmore’s lives and creative journeys have taken them through different characters and songs from a variety of times in history. That is part of the attitude in the song "Where Are We Going from Here,” about a traveling minstrel’s journey through life and age.
The title track (and also the first single and video), “All Our Yesterdays” echoes the sounds of Candice’s Russian roots, while a new song written by Germany’s George Hesse is an old-style, fiddle-driven instrumental with the Welsh title “Allan yn y Fan” (meaning “Out There”). Ritchie’s heritage includes family from Wales.
The album also includes stunning instrumentals: the acoustic guitar piece, “Queen’s Lament” and the dramatic “The Darker Shade of Black” that spotlights violin and guitar.
Elsewhere on the recording, “Earth Wind and Sky” is a delicate ode to nature. “The Other Side,” a latter-day folk dance joins two jigs that Candice sings: “Coming Home” and the supernatural-themed, “Will o’ the Wisp.”
ALL OUR YESTERDAYS gets further inspiration from Candace and Ritchie’s home town, where they take part in community folk nights during which the neighbors share guitars and songs, and sing melodies that have come from a variety of times in their own history. That’s how they fell in love with songs of various radio formats of years gone by. The album includes the Linda Ronstadt hit “Long Long Time” (penned by Gary White); the Mike Oldfield song, “Moonlight Shadow;” and an inspiring Maypole Dance treatment of Sonny & Cher’s “I Got You Babe.”
Blackmore’s Night is a true musical and spiritual collaboration between vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Candice Night and her husband, legendary guitarist Ritchie Blackmore. The two met in 1989 when Deep Purple challenged Candice’s then radio station to a charity soccer match. In 1993 she sang on Rainbow’s DIFFICULT TO CURE tour. They co-wrote four songs for Rainbow’s STRANGER IN US ALL and in 1997 they formed Blackmore’s Night; they continue to play Faire Festivals all over the world.

LITTLE STEVEN WELCOMES THE YARDBIRDS

Generally he plays the band in heavy rotation on his Sirius XM channel, Little Steven's Underground Garage. On Wednesday, September 7, he was declaring the band's place in music history when he emceed the Yardbirds at BB King Blues Club and Grill, in New York City. GUITAR WORLD editor Brad Tolinski was also in attendance at the show, and he immediately reviewed the show on his blog, stating, it was "one of the best gigs I've seen this year."
