The long-awaited Elliott Murphy film Broken Poet will come out on digital HD May 15 from Virgil Films and Entertainment exclusively through music site http://backstreets.com/news.html#BPpre. 

The Backstreets site boasts a large fan base for Bruce Springsteen, who along with his wife Patti Scialfa makes a cameo appearance in the film. Together with Springsteen, Elliott Murphy began his career in the early 1970’s when both singer-songwriters were proclaimed the “new Dylan.” His career has been focused in Europe for many years where he continues to tour and release more than thirty-five albums. He lives in Paris where he has often joined Bruce Springsteen on stage.

“On Broken Poet we are experimenting with going direct to the actual fan base, releasing before the national release,” said Virgil president and CEO Joe Amodei. “Backstreets.com is the go-to for every Springsteen fan, so we were lucky to get to work with them on the release and offer the exclusive.”

The film will have a wider digital release in the summer.

Broken Poet stars Elliott Murphy, Michael O’Keefe, Marisa Berenson, Joanna Preiss and Françoise Viallon and is the story of 1970s rock star Jake Lion, who is presumed dead in Paris until a former roadie happens to be riding in the Paris Metro 40 years after his much-publicized suicide and hears an aged street musician who sounds just like him. Rolling Stone sends a rock journalist to investigate, and she uncovers something unexpected. Produced by Traloinver Ltd. and Directed by Emilio Ruiz the film is based on an Elliott Murphy short story (who co-wrote the script) and was shot in both Paris and New York with a soundtrack by Elliott Murphy & Gaspard Murphy. Originally intended to premiere in March as the opening film of the 2020 New York City International Film Festival (cancelled due to the Corona pandemic) Broken Poet will finally be available.

Long Island Rock Troubadour Surprises Billy Joel Fans, and Vice Versa

Billy Joel has been cheerleading for Elliott Murphy for decades. The two have been spotted together, recently, in favorite showcase venues.

On Thursday night, Nov. 8, Billy inducted Elliott and Jimmy Webb into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame at Westbury Space. He said, “His songs are honest and literate and pure, and those songs have attracted audiences far beyond his country.  I’ve long envied his bravery and integrity, and I’ve always admired his lyric skill.”

On Saturday night, Nov. 10, Elliott joined Billy live onstage at Madison Square Garden to sing Lou Reed’s “Walk on the Wild Side.”  

Elliott’s tour will include an anticipated performance at The Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, plus shows in Manhattan, Piermont (Nyack), Port Jefferson, and Amaganset. Tour dates below.

Anne Leighton Crowdfunding Her Poetry Book, "The Leighton Explosion"

Performing Poet Anne Leighton is crowdfunding to publish her up-and-coming poetryprosepoetry book and perform her poems live. April 2013 through May 2014, Anne will performing at least five or six shows in Washington, DC, New York, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey with Jim Gibson, who was in Tooth Fairy, who were popular on the radio show of the late BBC presenter John Peel. This spring, she and New York City-based poet Cornelius Eady plan on laying some grooves to their poems live in New York City for a show. She is scattering her tour dates because she also has an active management and publicity career, publicizing Ian Anderson/Jethro Tull, the Strawbs, Emily Hurd, Lonnie Hill, Grand Funk Railroad...

Anne believes the road will be a powerful experience for her, "I used to travel all the time on my own, but developed agoraphobia. As recent as September 2012, I was sobbing and having panic attacks on the streets AND in wide open spaces including sidewalks, even when other people were helping me. I've come a long way."

Anne's poetry has been read in THE AQUARIAN, BROADSIDE, THE MUSIC PAPER, NICKEL, BOG GOB, POWERLINE, SHOUT!, and LIVE WIRE. Jann Klose on Grammy-nominated album, HEALTHY FOOD FOR THOUGHT: GOOD ENOUGH TO EAT

Singer-songwriter Jann Klose is part of a Grammy-nominated album put together and marketed by a coalition of musicians, poets, childrens health experts, entrepreneurs, and-- of course-- album producers. The album, HEALTHY FOOD FOR THOUGHT: GOOD ENOUGH TO EAT is up for a Grammy in the category: "Best Spoken Word Album For Children." http://www.grammy.com/nominees.

The album's producers, Kevin Mackie, Jim Cravero, Paula Lizzi, and Steve Pullara assembled the 60-track, 2-record set (and digital release) over the course of two years. Other acts who contributed to the release include: Russell Simmons, Uncle Floyd, Julian Lennon, Michael O'Keefe, Tyler Grady, Tom Chapin, Sweet Honey In the Rock, Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer, Moby, Trout Fishing In America, and Sara Hickman.
