Elliott Murphy’s “Broken Poet” Movie World Premier New York City, March 25

BROKEN POET will have its world-wide premiere at the New York City International Film Festival (NYCIFF) on Wednesday 25 March at 8:00 at the Dolby Theater. The film will be preceded by a short acoustic concert by Elliott Murphy. BROKEN POET is directed by Emilio J. Ruiz and is based on a short story by Elliott Murphy, who also stars in the film and provides songs for the soundtrack including his classic LAST OF THE ROCK STARS. Other members of the cast include Joanna Preiss, Marisa Berensen, Michael O’Keefe and cameo appearances by Bruce Springsteen and Patti Scialfa. The story itself is that of a ‘70s US rock star who disappeared in Paris and may still be alive. Rolling Stone magazine sends a journalist to investigate, and the results are surprising. A fresh look at rock stardom and success and a gripping story shot within enchanting and sumptuous views of Paris and New York. In the mid-1960s, Brian Jones emerged as ‘the face’ and poster boy of the Bohemian Swingin’ London scene, topping the charts with The Rolling Stones and dating model/actress Anita Pallenberg.

However, his excessive lifestyle and his reputation as ‘ the original bad boy of Rock & Roll’ was to cost him dearly. As the scene descended into the acid ridden year of 1967 so did Brian. Targeted by the authorities and media, he spiraled out of control losing both Anita and the respect of the Stones. Two years later, Brian was found at the bottom of his swimming pool, the verdict: death by misadventure.

During the last 50 years many theories have emerged, claiming that Brian was murdered and that it was covered up at high level, as this film discovers – the evidence for this is extremely compelling.

The film had a highly successful world premiere this past December 16th in London at the Regent Street Cinema.

In June 2015, ROLLING STONE named the Strawbs’ HERO AND HEROINE one of the 50 Greatest Prog albums of all time. Insightful writer Ryan Reed noted HERO AND HEROINE, as the bands “heaviest, most symphonic album,” and cited leader Dave Cousins’ “ambitious prose” as some of the album’s power.

Inspired by this new intention, ROSFest invited the Strawbs to headline its Festival on Friday, May 6 (the fest runs May 6-8), and the band’s booked a tour around it. North America has an amazing relationship with Strawbs, as the group has sold more records in the USA and Canada than anywhere. In the USA the band had seven consecutive albums in the Billboard Top 200.

Dave Cousins, founder member, has been described by All Music Guide as: “the most talented Dylan influenced songwriter to come out of England.” He recently released his long awaited, and critically acclaimed, autobiography Exorcising Ghosts: Strawbs and Other Lives. Strawbs are often mentioned in the same breath as progressive rock bands like Yes, King Crimson, and The Moody Blues. It is well-documented that Rick Wakeman left Strawbs for Yes. Rick was followed by Blue Weaver - who left Strawbs to join the Bee Gees, John Hawken – from the original Renaissance, Don Airey - now with Deep Purple, Adam Wakeman, and Oliver Wakeman, who, like his father, left Strawbs to join Yes!

Strawbs emerged out of the British Folk Movement of the mid-1960s, starting life as the Strawberry Hill Boys playing bluegrass. They moved into the mainstream in 1967 by making the first Strawbs album, All Our Own Work, with Sandy Denny, a full year before she recorded her first album with Fairport Convention. The album attracted the attention of A&M Records in Hollywood who signed Strawbs as the first British band on the label.

Strawbs albums Hero & Heroine, Bursting At The Seams, Ghosts, and Grave New World define the music. The current Strawbs line-up comprises Dave Cousins, lead guitarist Dave Lambert, bass player Chas Cronk, and drummer Tony Fernandez, who has been in the Strawbs for the last 10 years and was first in the band in the 1970s (and Rick Wakeman’s drummer for 35 years). Gary Lucas and Jann Klose's Music Video "Mary Magdalene" Brings Attention to Superstorm Sandy People Still Needing To Get Their Homes Fixed

Lucas Klose have a new music video "Mary Magdalene," which was created, in part, to bring attention to the fact that people in the South Shore of Long Island, Queens, Staten Island, Brooklyn, and New Jersey, are still struggling to get their lives back to normal since Oct. 29, 2012's Superstorm Sandy.

When local travel agent Debra Michaels heard that Lucas Klose (an informal songwriting duo of guitarist Gary Lucas (Jeff Buckley, Captain Beefheart) and singer/songwriter Jann Klose) were looking for a location to film their video for their new song "Mary Magdalene," she called her neighbors including the Island Park Volunteer Fire Department.  They all said, "We want to get the message out that we're having a rough time getting Island Park back to normal."

Recalling disaster songs like Peter Adamson's "The Titanic" or Gordon Lightfoot's "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald," "Mary Magdalene" is about living through Superstorm Sandy; it was co-written by Gary, Jann, and Dan Beck who has written songs with legendary rockers Dion DiMucci and the Rascals' Felix Cavaliere.   

On September 16, Jann, Gary and Dan, plus a three-person production crew: Z3Rro The Comet, and Ashley Christopher (recent graduates from Five Towns' College) and EDM DJ James Messina filmed "Mary Magdalene" throughout Island Park, showing footage of condemned homes, the local fire house and a favorite pub The Local Ale House.

Jann and Gary's songwriting duo is based in the Roots Music Genre. In actuality both artists are eclectic musicians, who tour throughout the world on their own.  

Gary has worked heavily with both Jeff Buckley and Captain Beefheart, and is a solo artist/band leader with 27 albums to his credit.  ROLLING STONE says Gary is, "One of the best and most original guitarists in America...a modern guitar miracle." Jann won more awards in the Vox Populi of the 2014 Independent Music Awards (IMAs) than any other nominee, and in four eclectic categories including his a cappella cover of Tim Buckley's "Song To The Siren.” 

Gary and Jann both worked on the movie GREETINGS FROM TIM BUCKLEY (Tribeca Films/Focus World/Universal). Jann is the singing voice of Tim Buckley, while Gary consulted and played guitar. Tony Award winner Frank Wood plays Gary in the film.

Innovative singer/songwriter/producer/author Richard Barone is involved with three projects--two are based on his career and now even-more-relevant-than-ever 1987 album, COOL BLUE HALO, and one is with legendary folk singer-songwriter Pete Seeger.

The DigSin label is releasing the 25th Anniversary Limited Box set of COOL BLUE HALO which features a 2 CD/DVD 2012 Anniversary concert he presented, along with guest performers The Band's Garth Hudson and producer Tony Visconti, plus a documentary (I BELONG TO ME: THE COOL BLUE HALO STORY) on the history of COOL BLUE HALO, a T-shirt, and the original album.

I BELONG TO ME: THE COOL BLUE HALO STORY will be held at Anthology Film Archives, 32 Second Avenue, in New York City, on December 10th, with a special live performance in the theater.

Initially ROLLING STONE contributor Anthony DeCurtis reviewed COOL BLUE HALO in 1987, and dubbed Richard's music "chamber pop" for it made an interesting use of a cello and percussion as opposed to electric guitar, bass, drums. That 1987 review was one of the first times the term had been used in a critical review. Since then the genre has come into popularity with today's popular artists: The Shins, Fleet Foxes, Antony and the Johnson, Rachel Platten, DeVotchKa, the Decemberists. In reconnecting with Richard's music, Anthony stated, "there is great beauty to this album tht find completely undminished since it first came out... the music is so timeless."

On Election Day, Nov. 6, 2012, Legendary folk singer Pete Seeger released a new single and his first-ever music video "God's Counting On Me, God's Counting On You" (Sloop Mix) filmed and recorded live on the historic Hudson River Sloop Clearwater. Pete Seeger co-wrote "God's Counting On Me" with his long time friend Lorre Wyatt after the BP Oil Crisis in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010. Richard Barone and Matthew Billy produced the song. Wings drummer Steve Holley and the Roches Terre Roche are among the musicians lending their support on the recording.

At age 93, Pete Seeger has had a broad influence on the development of contemporary folk music in a career that has stretched from before World War II to after the turn of the 21st century. Songs he's written include: "If I Had a Hammer (The Hammer Song)," "Where Have All the Flowers Gone," and "Turn! Turn! Turn! (To Everything There Is a Season)," all have became major hits; his words and music have have helped unite causes including building unions, ending wars, supporting the rights of the oppressed, and saving the environment.

Richard Barone is an acclaimed recording artist/performer/producer/author. Since fronting Indie-pop icons The Bongos, Barone has produced countless studio recordings and has collaborated with artists in every genre--from Lou Reed and Moby to Liza Minnelli, Tiny Tim, and of course--most recently--Pete Seeger. As a musical and theatrical director, he has scored shows and staged all-star concert events at such venues as Carnegie Hall and the Hollywood Bowl. His memoir FRONTMAN: Surviving the Rock Star Myth was published by Hal Leonard Books. He was recently appointed to the Board of Advisors for Anthology Film Archives and as a Professor at New York University's Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music.
