Rick Derringer and Joy Behar Videos!

One of the amazing benefits of my job (which includes helping artists keep their music heard by the masses) is that I can work with classic artists that I’ve admired for many years.  Rick Derringer and his first wife Liz were instrumental in getting my career off the ground in New York City 30-plus years ago.

If you’re a fan of an artist, let them influence you in many ways.  Rick taught me the value of being yourself, and learning about yourself, and how much happier it makes you, and keeps you going, professionally. The profound example he used in a big interview we did was of 1980s' superstar Michael Jackson, "50 million people love and 50 million can't stand him."

He worked with Joy Behar, whose speaking voice was loved and hated by millions.  Therefore she turned it into millions as an interviewer with a sense of humor.  Early on, she and Rick collaborated on camera for a cable TV show, Way Off Broadway.  The show, which found its way into music biz gossip columns, was taped in New York City, between 1987-1988, and seen on cable TV throughout the United States.

As of now, here are all the links that have recently resurfaced on the Internet.

Spirited Instrumentals

Spirited music is our name and game and work! :)
All my New York City-area friends are invited to the Cutting Room, on Friday, April 27, at 7:30 PM for  Legends of Boston.
Who are these Boston musicians? Two different acts: Magic Dick & Shun Ng AND Johnny A. (and his guitars.)
Magic Dick is J. Geils' harmonica player and Shun is an entertaining acoustic guitar player, and he reminds me of an acoustic Jimi Hendrix and Eddie Van Halen rolled into one with a voice inspired by Michael Jackson. In fact, Quincy Jones says he was blown away by both Shun's  "soul and his science – his creativity and his uniqueness is astounding.”

This is their song: SPACE, which is available for licensing.
Follow the link for their cover of "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag" to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxAZ3YyjtPg
Johnny A. and his guitars cover the Left Banke's “Walk Away Renee”: https://youtu.be/9IRetoeEecc
He'll be doing a set of British Invasion SongBook.

This is the link to order tickets for Magic Dick & Shun Ng and Johnny A.. https://tickets.thecuttingroomnyc.com/event/1655553

The Cutting Room is at 44 East 32nd Street, in New York, and the phone number is 212-691-1900. The website is http://thecuttingroomnyc.com.

Quick heads up about Holiday music including Halloween songs like the Gentle Giant instrumental, SPOOKY BOOGIE.  Hammond organ and great horror cues!

Mark Stein Launches New Solo Band, The Mark Stein Project

His legacy spans over five decades, and he has influenced some of the most
well-known rock bands and musicians. Mark Stein is known as the voice, keyboardist and music arranger of the classic rock band Vanilla Fudge.

His new group, The Mark Stein Project continues to share his music, passion and stories.

The Mark Stein Project is a true classic rock experience! Performing the hit songs of all the great artists he’s worked with, backed by a hand picked, exciting array of young talent that kicks ass!!!

The Mark Stein Project features:
*Mark Stein: Vocals/Keyboards
(Vanilla Fudge, Dave Mason, Alice Cooper, Carl Palmer, Tommy Bolin)

*Mark Hitt: Guitar/Vocals
(Robin Zander (Cheap Trick), John Entwistle, Brian Johnson of AC/DC, The Tubes)

*Jordan Steinberg: Bass/Vocals

*Charlie Zeleny: Drums
(Joe Lynn Turner from Rainbow/Deep Purple, Derek St. Holmes, Jordan Rudess from Dream Theater)

Touted by critics as one of the great voices in Rock—alongside of Glenn Hughes and Joe Lynn Turner—The Mark Stein Project is a night of great music & storytelling. Discover a place where a song leads to a story, and a story leads to a song. More than just a singer/musician, Stein is a skilled entertainer, with the talent and charisma to take the crowd along for a wonderful ride of the classic rock experience.

Stein has shared whiskey with Janis Joplin, sung with Michael Jackson, toured with Jimi Hendrix, and witnessed the dawn of Led Zeppelin. His firsthand storytelling that reflects on the history of rock gives the audience a “You are There” feeling that can only be told by someone who has lived it.

The debut album:Vanilla Fudge was the first of its kind to reach the top 10 on Billboard charts without a hit single. “You Keep Me Hangin’ On” was released one year later and went to #1 on most radio playlists, both in America and all over the World! The psychedelic symphonic rock sound of the band was spearheaded by the Hammond organ & vocal style of Mark Stein. “The Fudge” have been heralded by critics as the doorway between pop music and Progressive Rock. Bands including Deep Purple, Yes, Uriah Heep and even Led Zeppelin have said that Vanilla Fudge had a profound influence on them.

Rolling Stone magazine wrote: “There was nothing, even in 1967, like the 10-ton shock of this Long Island quartet's cover of the Supremes You Keep Me Hanging On, with the lava-flow sustain of Mark Stein's Hammond organ…”

Stein has toured and/or recorded, and appeared throughout his career with Dave Mason, Tommy Bolin, Alice Cooper, The Doors, Deep Purple, Rod Stewart, Carl Palmer (in a tribute to Keith Emerson), and Michael Jackson.

The Mark Stein Project will be releasing a new EP & Video to be released in 2018; stay tuned for more details.
