Anne Leighton Performs Returns to the Poetry Stage Aug. 28 at the Indie Collaborative

Poet Excited to Shake Her Hips and Swing on Stage at Legendary New York City Club 

Anne Leighton is making her first public appearance, performing her poetry since the 2016 publication of her book, THE LEIGHTON EXPLOSION.  She joins over 50 performers from all over the world at INDIE COLLABORATIVE on August 28 at the Bitter End, New York City.
The Bitter End is at 147 Bleecker Street (between Thompson and LaGuardia), 
New York City.

Anne Leighton’s 2016 poetry book, THE LEIGHTON EXPLOSION is published and distributed world-wide through Canada’s Soul Asylum Poetry. It’s the result of a lifetime in poetry and a successful crowdfunding campaign, which includes her goal of performing live in five different locations.  Anne is also a recovering Agoraphobic, and active music services consultant/publicist with clients that include classic rock acts Jethro Tull’s Ian Anderson, Orleans’ John Hall, Grand Funk Railroad, Gentle Giant, plus Outlaw Americana artist Phoebe Legere, alternative violinist master Joe Deninzon.

Known for her radio-styled speaking voice and optimistic sense of humor, Anne has found work recording her poems, which appear on the Billboard top 10 album, ACTION MOVES PEOPLE-UNITED, the Grammy-nominated HEALTHY FOOD FOR THOUGHT, and 3 of prog artist Jay Tausig’s TRIP AROUND THE SUN releases. Her poems have been published in BOG GOB, Powerline, the Aquarian, and “Nickel.” She has performed at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe and Peter Max’s Studio. She has 3 other books including top-selling UK cat book: PAWS FOR THOUGHT: HOW TO UNDERSTAND WHAT YOUR CAT IS THINKING (Rockwell Books).  Using the $1500 profit plus some earnings from her publicity work, Anne produced a flirtatious Christmas song she co-wrote with Roberta Piket and Priscilla Harriett called, GOT MY EYE ON YOU, SANTA, which is out on digital September.  

The Indie Collaborative is an organization of independent musicians and music industry professionals which holds several showcases each year for its members. Founded by Grant Maloy Smith (now with his album, DUST BOWL-AMERICAN STORIES is in BILLBOARD’s Americana/Folk Album Sales Charts’ Top Ten) and lyricist-playwright Eileen Sherman in 2015, the Indie Collaborative has held events in Los Angeles, New York, Nashville, Chicago, Philadelphia and Nashville. The August 28 showcase at the legendary Bitter End in New York’s Greenwich Village spans the afternoon and evening. The event features more than 50 musicians from classical guitarists and pianists to pop, rock, country. Among the performers: GRAMMY-winning flautist from South Africa, Wouter Kellerman, Actress/Singer of Sophisticated Lady & movies Sonya Hensley, plus Anne, Grant, Eileen, and a variety of working musicians/songwriters. The showcase features a keynote address in the afternoon by Tony Van Veen, CEO of AVL Digital Media on how independent musicians can manage their careers.

Joe Deninzon & Stratospheerius Music Video/Single, HYSTERIA

(Electric Violinist/Singer Amplifies Muse’s Passionate Song)

Joe Deninzon & Stratospheerius’ new music video and single, HYSTERIA will be live on YouTube, Spotify, and digital stores on August 4.


HYSTERIA is a Wagnerian/Queen-esque cover of Muse’s 2003 hit.  The song is going to be on the upcoming Stratospheerius album, GUILTY OF INNOCENCE, out September 29 on Melodic Revolution Records, the leading North American progressive rock record label. 

Directed by musician Dave Milone (of the band Radio 4), the video for HYSTERIA features a dramatic performance of the band punctuated with explosions. Deninzon says the explosions represent “Someone who has had enough! Feeling hopeless frustration with the current state of the world, breaking out of a bad relationship, or someone held back from their dreams and ambitions, a prisoner in their mind or in a literal sense…or both!”  

Joe is a huge Muse and Queen fan, and pays tribute to both bands in their version of this song, "The original was so perfect that we wanted to reimagine the song entirely!" The single features singer Melanie Mitrano, the first time Stratospheerius has ever had an operatic soprano guesting on any of their recordings.

Gentle Giant will release “Three Piece Suite”


On September 29th 2017 Gentle Giant will release “Three Piece Suite.”

Gentle Giant—Three Piece Suite is a specially curated selection of songs and compositions from the band’s first three albums (Giant, Acquiring the Taste, Three Friends) presented in both 5.1 surround sound and stereo. There are nine tracks from the albums, plus a pre-debut song, remixed by Steven Wilson. The choices were determined by the limited availability of multi-track master tapes from the era. Only a few songs from each album are known to exist as multi-tracks, with the rest presumably lost.

Three Piece Suite is available in the following formats:
*A two-disc digipak containing 96/24 animated Blu-ray plus CD.
*A single disc digipak CD.
*A two-disc gatefold LP in180g high-end vinyl.
*A digital download of the two disc Blu-Ray plus CD version.

Gentle Giant’s Three Piece Suite includes the songs “Giant,” “Nothing At All,” and “Why Not” from the first album “Giant.” 
“Pantagruel’s Nativity,” “The House, The Street, The Room” from the second album “Acquiring The Taste.”  
“Schooldays,” “Peel the Paint,” “Mr. Class And Quality,” and “Three Friends” from the album “Three Friends” completes the list of the original recorded material.

The band and Steven Wilson are including a previously commercially unreleased song “Freedom’s Child” taken from the first recording sessions with legendary producer Tony Visconti.

The liner notes by Interviewer Anil Prasad include reflections from Gentle Giant’s members about the writing and recording sessions.

Steven Wilson and Tony Visconti share their incredible observations about the early days of this unique collection of timeless music from one of progressive rock’s most influential bands.

Tony Visconti recounts:
“I was a very optimistic young man in 1970…I thought music like theirs would save the world from mediocrity. I couldn’t wait to sink my teeth in it. I championed their cause by becoming sympathetic to the point where I temporarily joined the band for both albums. I modified their arrangements and pulled off some stunning audio effects that gave their sound more depth and immediacy. The band knew I was on their side. I remember there being a great feeling of camaraderie during the sessions.”

Steven Wilson explains:
“To create the new mixes, I used Logic as the software and Universal Audio plug-ins, which provide emulations of classic analog outboard effects, channel strips and old mixing desks…I used these tools to clean things up and bring out some more clarity, detail and definition in some of the instrumental interplay. There was never a question of trying to outdo the original mixes, but offer different perspectives on them.”

Tony Visconti continues:
“In our own way, we’ve touched the ears, minds and hearts of thousands of true believers.”

The band members, collectively, feel there are still good reasons its fans continue to enjoy Gentle Giant’s music and why it continues to be discovered by new generations.

For fans of Gentle Giant “Three Piece Suite” is a must have.  For fans of great musicianship and progressive rock this is an incredible insight into the earliest days of this legendary band.

PROG Magazine Nominates Allan Holdsworth Box Set as Best Reissue 2017

Manifesto Records is proud to announce that their 12-CD Box Set release by the late Allan Holdsworth, The Man Who Changed Guitar Forever, has been nominated as Reissue of the Year for the 2017 Progressive Music Awards.  

The nominations are announced in the new issue of Prog, (on sale June 30). The voting is open for everybody at www.progmagazine.com/awards.

Voting runs until August 23.

The Progressive Music Awards will be held on September 14 at London's Underglobe beneath Shakespeare's Globe Theatre on London’s Southbank. 
The 12-CD set, The Man Who Changed Guitar Forever was released in April by Los Angeles, CA-based Manifesto Records. Manifesto referenced the box set’s seemingly portentous title from the cover story article featuring Holdsworth in Guitar Player magazine’s April 2008 edition. 
Featured on the box set are twelve re-mastered albums, beginning with the 1982 studio release, Allan Holdsworth, I.O.U. The Box Set features addiIonal bonus tracks added for special editions or the original Japanese releases, along with the original artwork and studio credits. Included in the set are I.O.U. Melodic Revolution Records is proud to announce that they have signed New York-based Prog outfit Joe Deninzon & Stratospheerius for the group’s upcoming release, “GUILTY OF INNOCENCE.” 

Joe Deninzon & Stratospheerius will release their fifth CD “Guilty of Innocence” through Melodic Revolution Records early Fall 2017. The new 10-track album will be available worldwide in both Physical and Digital formats. “Guilty of Innocence” features special appearances by Alex Skolnick (Testament), Rave Tesar (Renaissance) and Randy McStine (The Fringe). 
“Guilty of Innocence” highlights include a reimagined cover of Muse’s “Hysteria,” a 12-minute prog epic titled “Soul Food” which features many of the guests mentioned above, plus “Dream Diary Cadenza,” a solo electric violin extravaganza lifted from Joe’s electric violin concerto.

ELLIOTT MURPHY’s new album: “PRODIGAL SON”

American Appearances on July 26 at Stony Brook Film Festival and August 1 at the Rockwood Music Hall

Elliott Murphy’s thirty-fifth album - PRODIGAL SON - is now available in North America on CD and Vinyl LP (Traffic distribution) as well as on Amazon, iTunes, streaming sites and other online stores. PRODIGAL SON is also out in Europe where it has received rave reviews including the prestigious French cultural mag Telerama.

PRODIGAL SON is Elliott’s first album of all new original songs in over three years and marks a daring step forward in both musical and lyrical terms from one of the most original and classic American rock singer-songwriters. Recorded in Paris’ Question de Son Studio (where artists such as Kanye West and Beck have worked while in Paris) Elliott is backed by his long-time backing band The Normandy All Stars (Alan Fatras, Laurent Pardo and guitar virtuoso Olivier Durand). Sadly, Laurent Pardo passed away just after the album was completed - in Elliott’s liner notes there is a heartfelt dedication. 

PRODIGAL SON was produced, mixed and arranged by Elliott’s son Gaspard Murphy, an up and coming producer in his own right (Superbus / Warner Music France). The album features “Leon Russell-styled” keyboard work by Leo Cotton and evocative violin playing by Australian Melissa Cox. PRODIGAL SON was conceived and written with the idea of incorporating a gospel choir and the blend of these majestically soaring voices along with Murphy’s own on tracks such as “Wit’s End” is monumental. 

Highlights from PRODIGAL SON include the anthem “Chelsea Boots,” the poignant love song “Let Me In,” and the touching story of a young girls coming of age “Hey Little Sister.” The album ends with Elliott Murphy’s longest song to date “Absalom, Davy & Jacky O” – a virtual film noir within a song – that clocks in at just over eleven minutes. 

PRODIGAL SON follows the release of the film THE SECOND ACT OF ELLIOTT MURPHY featuring interviews with Bruce Springsteen (who says of Elliott Murphy: I don’t think he’s ever written a bad song” and Billy Joel (who says “I thought he was good as soon as I saw him”). PRODIGAL SON will surely go down as one of the amazing highlights of a storied musical career that began with AQUASHOW. (1973).

“Johnny Gruesome" Theme Song Scored by Robby Takac, Co-Founder of the Goo Goo Dolls

The soundtrack for the upcoming Red Hill Movies LLC horror thriller Johnny Gruesome, featuring a score composed by Armand John Petri and Joe Rozler, will include an original theme song performed by Robby Takac, co-founder of the bestselling rock act the Goo Goo Dolls. He, Petri, and Rozler co-wrote "Dyin' Tonight," which was recorded at Takac's Buffalo, New York studio, GCR Audio.

Johnny Gruesome was written and directed by Gregory Lamberon (Slime City, Killer Rack), based on his award-winning novel, also called Johnny Gruesome.

Johnny Gruesome tells the story of a murdered high school student who returns from the grave as a vengeful monster. Petri and Rozler signed on to compose the score following their work in the same capacity on Killer Rack, and enlisted Takac to collaborate on "Dyin' Tonight."

"Johnny Gruesome is a rock 'n roll monster, and we needed a score that reflected that vibe," says Lamberson. "Armand, Joe and Robby are among the most talented music pros in Western New York, and since Johnny Gruesome is a Buffalo production, it's fantastic to have them involved in such instrumental roles. Horror fans are going to love this score, it's full and lush, not just synth.

An independent record producer and manager, Petri has worked with the Goo Goo Dolls, 10,000 Maniacs, and Sixpense None the Richer. Rozler is a renowned keyboardist and studio musician who has written string arrangements for Manowar and 10,000 Maniacs.

In addition to his Goo Goo Dolls role, bassist and vocalist Takac owns the record label Good Charamel Records and serves as president of the nonprofit Music Is Art Festival. All three have been inducted into the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame.

Mary Ramsey of both 10,000 Maniacs and John & Mary fame played viola and violin on the score, accomplished conductor Bryan Eckenrode played cello, and Virginia Croft, honored by Miramax Films with their "Music of the Heart" award, plays violin.

The soundtrack for the film also includes songs created by Dean Italiano and Giasone Italiano for the "Gruesome" rock CD released 10 years ago to promote the novel. The film’s co-star Aprilann, who portrays Johnny’s girlfriend Karen, performed the song, “Not You” for the soundtrack.

Johnny Gruesome is now wrapping post-production, and Lamberson will soon seek distribution. "Dyin' Tonight" will be available on iTunes before the film is released. The "Gruesome" CD by the Italianos is currently available on Amazon and iTunes.

Rest In Peace Allan Holdsworth (August 6, 1946 - April 16, 2017)

Music Industry Friends Share Appreciation for Allan Holdsworth
Hello to my friends and colleagues in music. Along with Manifesto Records’ Dan Perloff, it’s been a pleasure to work Allan and his two new reissues: the box set:“The Man Who Changed Guitar Forever” which has all of Allan’s solo albums, and “Eidolon,” a 2 CD collection that Allan chose the songs for.
Between April 4 and April 10, Allan played 3 SOLD OUT shows in Southern California. He left us on a high chord!
A tech-savvy man of 71, he taught me to have fun with my cellphone, as he always requested that we text important notes to him. No email, just texting! He got me using emojis like the British flag, pictures of snowmen, and broken hearts. Allan’s favorite was a smiley guy that gritted its teeth.
I will be making MP3s available for radio programmers, music supervisors, and other accredited journalists—please email me if you’re interested.
This note is a scrapbook of remembrances from friends of Allan’s. Chris Hoard’s two paragraph recollection will give biographical insight and personal remembrances. I’m also including links to video, writing, and a podcast interview. In the next few weeks there will be a variety of articles on Allan—interviews conducted by Bill Kopp for PROG magazine and Joe Lalaina for GUITAR WORLD.

Photo Opp: Phoebe Legere, Mike Keneally, Joe Deninzon at The Iridium

Electric Violinist/Singer Joe Deninzon & Singer/Songwriter/Keyboardist Phoebe Legere turned out for Mike Keneally & Beer For Dolphins’ two night residency at New York City’s Iridium. All three artists have a powerful mutual respect for one another.

Legere is celebrating the release and Top ten success on the Alternate Roots chart, plus Top 30 on Roots and Americana Radio of her new album, HEART OF LOVE. The Hamptons, NY will be playing host to Fourth of July with Phoebe this summer. Look for events leading up to a big party and concert on July 4 at Stephen Talkhouse. She recently signed with Jeff Miller for booking her Cajun Jamboree in PACs and Casinos. Mike is writing new songs with Devin Townsend. Mike will be touring in Europe this summer with a trio called the Mike Keneally Report, and touring the west coast in August with his longtime band Beer For Dolphins (who will also appear at Progtoberfest in Chicago this October). In the works is a semi-secret new band project with former members of Zappa Plays Zappa and a current member of Umphrey's McGee.
