NYC avant-supergroup GARY LUCAS' GODS AND MONSTERS celebrate their 25th Anniversary with a special
concert at Le Poisson Rouge NYC on Fri. June 27th from 8--10pm.
Lucas is renowned worldwide as
"one of the best and most original guitarists in America...a modern
guitar miracle" (Rolling Stone), and his band Gods and Monsters
have been called "an underground rock fan's dream team" (The New
Yorker).
Their last studio album
"The Ordeal of Civility" (Knitting Factory Records) was produced by
Jerry Harrison (Talking Heads) and received superlative reviews, including 4
Stars in MOJO.
The band features Lucas
on guitars and vocals, plus Ernie Brooks (Modern Lovers) on bass, Billy Ficca
(Television) on drums, and Jason Candler (Hungry March Band) on
woodwinds.
Sitting in with them will be
acoustic guitar goddess Kaki King, Independent Music Award- nominated
vocalist Jann Klose, Faith vocalist Felice Rosser, Austrian chanteuse
Gisburg, author Mike Edison on theremin, and Israeli choreographer/dancer Mor
Mendel.
Lucas formed Gods and Monsters
in 1989, based around his guitar prowess and Grammy-nominated songwriting,
and Gods and Monsters' ranks over the years have included folks such as
Matthew Sweet, Richard Barone, and most famously, the late great Jeff
Buckley. Lucas co-wrote Jeff's well-known anthems "Grace" and "Mojo Pin", and will devote a segment of this Gods and Monsters Silver Anniversary show as a tribute to Jeff, featuring Jann Klose on vocals.
