GONG releases new album, I SEE YOU

Franco-British progressive rock group still creating new music

Gong’s new album I SEE YOU is now out on Madfish (a division of Snapper Music) in North America.
Please note that Gong co-founder Daevid Allen currently is in treatment for cancer. We will set up interviews with other band members: Orlando Allen on drums, bassist Dave Sturt, guitarist Fabio Golfetti, and horn player Ian East winds. Another guitarist Kavus Torabi (formely of The Cardiacs and also with Gong guitarist Steve Hillage) is new to the band; he is also available.
The current incarnation of Gong comprises vocalist / lyricist Daevid Allen, who, even at the age of 75, still radiates an incandescent creativity, the original anarchic vibe that was born out of counter-culture revolution in the Paris commune in 1968. Allen's own, highly idiosyncratic worldview helped kick-start the classic Brit psychedelic explorers, Soft Machine when the '60s were still swinging. His co-conspirators on I SEE YOU are Orlando Allen on drums, new guitarist Kavus Torabi (The Cardiacs), guitarist Brazilian Fabio Golfetti, horn player Ian East winds, and bassist Dave Sturt (the sonic manipulator).
I SEE YOU is timeless and timely, a welcome antidote to an increasingly homogenized musical mainstream. The playful song "I See You" is fusion and kicks off the album. "Syllabub" could be a hit, and namedrops culture in a fun-loving way. Tracks such as "This Revolution," a spoken piece which namechecks Gil Scott-Heron and picks up the vibe of his "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised," articulates the kind of concerns and theories that’ve always inspired Daevid Allen and informed the Gong worldview, contrasts with the ferocious inter-stellar Funk of "You See Me," which is sure to be a live favorite. "Thank You" is a heavy slab of psychedelicised blues, whilst the closing song "Shakti Yoni Dingo Virgin," a moody, melodic instrumental piece with heavy pant-singing--serves to illustrate the immense musical firepower and musical diversity that lurks within the current line-up of Gong.
Gong hopes to take I SEE YOU out on tour in the coming months when Daevid's health will allow. Do listen, because I SEE YOU offers up yet more proof that Daevid Allen's creative wellspring shows no sign of running dry, and that the latest Gong line-up has the kind of musical acumen that matches any of their classic line-ups of yore.
Gong is a Franco-British rock band formed by Australian musician Daevid Allen. Other notable band members include Kevin Ayers. Tim Blake, Didier Malherbe, Pip Pyle, Gilli Smyth, Steve Hillage, Francis Moze, Mike Howlett, Pierre Moerlen, Allan Holdsworth, Bon Lozaga, Hansford Rowe. Mick Taylor & Darryl Way have played on Gong albums, and Van Der Graaf Generator drummer Guy Evans played with Gilli Smythe's Mother Gong Others who have, albeit briefly, played in Gong include Bill Bruford, Brian Davison, Don Cherry, and Chris Cutler.

Lunatic Soul's New Music Video THE FEAR WITHIN Was Filmed in Chernobyl

Lunatic Soul album,  WALKING ON A FLASHLIGHT BEAM Out Now

THE FEAR WITHIN is the name of the new music video for Mariusz Duda’s solo project, Lunatic Soul and its album, WALKING ON A FLASHLIGHT BEAM.

Mariusz Duda is the lead singer and creative force behind the Polish band, Riverside.  KScope has released Lunatic Soul’s fourth album WALKING ON A FLASHLIGHT BEAM, which comprises almost 64 minutes of brand new music.

Filmed by Scott (that’s right, just “Scott”) from Kscope, and edited by (Steven Wilson’s video director) Lasse Hoile, THE FEAR WITHIN video documents Chernobyl as it is now nearly 30 years since the catastrophic nuclear accident (26 of April, 1986).  Scott has an interest in “dark tourism,” which is traveling to sites historically associated with death and tragedy and “urbexing,” which is exploring ‘generally abandoned man-made ruins.

Pripyat (a ghost town near Reactor 4 at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant) is high on Scott’s list of well known places to visit, “I was desperate to explore the abandoned area surrounding the power station that was the scene of the devastating nuclear disaster, before the government changed the regulations for visitors. A friend suggested a trip to Kiev, Ukraine. I spoke with Lasse before I went, and he encouraged me to film/photograph as much as I possibly could to document the area, with a thought to potentially using the footage to create a video in the future when an appropriate project came up. It had to be the right fit for the right track. Lunatic Soul's THE FEAR WITHIN was that perfect project."

Mariusz Duda says the album WALKING ON A FLASHLIGHT BEAM title “indicates living in a world of imagination in a place that’s made up and unreal. You can have your head in the clouds, you can chase after rainbows so you can walk on a flashlight beam too. It’s a story about choosing to be alone, inspired by the life of people who were completely alienated and withdrawn from social life, who shunned all interactions with the outside world. It’s about people who, even on a bright and sunny day, have the curtains drawn and the blinds closed in their rooms. Such people are usually surrounded by books, films, games, figments of other people’s imagination. I’ve written about solitude and living in a world of fiction before in Riverside’s lyrics but now I’ve decided to write a whole album about it.”

Jimmy Sarro, Volunteer Fireman who appears in Lucas Klose’s music video, MARY MAGDALENE

Watch Lucas Klose's “Mary Magdalene” on VEVO

One of the segments in the Lucas Klose (Gary Lucas & Jann Klose) music video, MARY MAGDALENE that is attracting attention shows a fireman pointing at the back of his blue T-shirt, which reads, “IPFD Hurricane Sandy Task Force.”

“IPFD” stands for the “Island Park Fire Department.”  It’s a Volunteer Fire Department.  Many Island Park residents lost their homes in the October 29, 2012 Superstorm Sandy.  The man pointing at the back of his T-shirt is Jimmy Sarro, one of volunteer fire men and women.

Since the early 1900s Jimmy’s grandparents and great ones volunteered for the Freeport, NY Fire Dept.  After September 11, he visited Ground Zero and felt the need to volunteer for the Island Park Volunteer Fire Department.

Jimmy Sarro, Assistant Chief of the Island Park Fire Department
His day job is as a painter for the NYC Housing Authority, but because of the devastation from Superstorm Sandy, Jimmy could not go to work, and spent 15 days helping people in need.  “The firehall was the only building that had electricity because we have a generator.  If people needed a charge up for their car, I did that.  If they needed their basement pumped, I did that.  Whatever people in Island Park needed, we did.”

Gary and Jann encourage donations to the Island Park Volunteer Fire Department.  Their new music video "Mary Magdalene," was created, in part, to bring attention to the fact that people in the South Shore of Long Island, Queens, Staten Island, Brooklyn, and New Jersey, are still struggling to get their lives back to normal since Oct. 29, 2012's Superstorm Sandy.

Recalling disaster songs like Peter Adamson's "The Titanic" or Gordon Lightfoot's "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald," "Mary Magdalene" is about living through Superstorm Sandy; it was co-written by Gary, Jann, and Dan Beck who has written songs with legendary rockers Dion DiMucci and the Rascals' Felix Cavaliere.

On September 16, Jann, Gary and Dan, plus a three-person production crew: Z3ro The Comet, and Ashley Christopher (recent graduates from Five Towns' College) and EDM DJ James Messina filmed "Mary Magdalene" throughout Island Park, showing footage of condemned homes, the local fire house and a favorite pub The Local Ale House.

In addition to cinematography in Island Park, the video uses footage of Breezy Point supplied by Getty Images Editorial Footage/Getty Images.

Jann and Gary's songwriting duo is based in the Roots Music genre. In actuality both artists are eclectic musicians, who tour the world on their own.  Gary has worked heavily with both Jeff Buckley and Captain Beefheart, and is a solo artist/band leader with 27 albums to his credit.  ROLLING STONE says Gary is, "One of the best and most original guitarists in America...a modern guitar miracle." Jann won more awards in the Vox Populi of the 2014 Independent Music Awards (IMAs) than any other nominee, and in four eclectic categories including his a cappella cover of Tim Buckley's "Song To The Siren.”

Gary and Jann both worked on the movie GREETINGS FROM TIM BUCKLEY (Tribeca Films/Focus World/Universal). Jann is the singing voice of Tim Buckley, while Gary consulted and played guitar. Tony Award winner Frank Wood plays Gary in the film.

"Mary Magdalene" is now on VEVO at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SA-GJNH0I38 .  It can also be seen on dailymotion.com. In 2015 spring, Jann and Gary will be releasing an EP of favorite new songs in the roots genre.

Gary Lucas and Jann Klose's Music Video "Mary Magdalene" Brings Attention to Superstorm Sandy People Still Needing To Get Their Homes Fixed

Lucas Klose encourage donations to the Island Park Volunteer Fire Department

When local travel agent Debra Michaels heard that Lucas Klose (an informal songwriting duo of guitarist Gary Lucas (Jeff Buckley, Captain Beefheart) and singer/songwriter Jann Klose) were looking for a location to film their video for their new song "Mary Magdalene," she called her neighbors including the Island Park Volunteer Fire Department.  They all said, "We want to get the message out that we're having a rough time getting Island Park back to normal."

Jann Klose Wins Four Categories in the Vox Pop (People's Voice) For This Year's Independent Music Awards

A noted blues critic, who liked Jann's music, told me, "Jann Klose is a word-of-mouth artist.
That's how his career is going to grow."

Jann's fans voted for him to win in three eclectic categories in the VOX POP segment of this year's IMA (Independent Music Award) contest. The nominations were for music (Jann's cover of Tim Buckley’s "Song To The Siren") and design (website: jannklose.com and swag: his limited edition T-shirt that uses the lyric, "If you don't know love, you don't know life" from his indie radio hit, "Make It Better" of his new album, MOSAIC). There's also a fourth category as Jann sings, "Humble Wish” on ACTION MOVES PEOPLE, which won both the Vox Pop and music industry competitions in the Various Artists: Spoken Word category.

To date more than 100,000 fans have championed their favorite established artists and rising stars in The IMA Vox Pop poll. Martin Folkman, Executive Director of The Independent Music Awards, says, “We’re focused on placing exceptional artists and releases in front of music consumers around the world.” Open to self-released and indie label acts, the IMA’s ongoing promotions, distribution, and performance opportunities place winners and nominees in front of millions of fans and industry decision makers. See more at: independentmusicawards.com

Jann is currently working on a new album as an Americana duo (LUCAS KLOSE) with Gary Lucas (Jeff Buckley, Captain Beefheart). The two have been friends and collaborators since 2010, Gary turned Jann on to the music of Tim Buckley when he got Jann the gig, singing Tim's parts in the movie, GREETINGS FROM TIM BUCKLEY (Tribeca Film/Focus World). In time he connected with Tim's lyricist, poet Larry Beckett. The two are writing together as well. In addition, both of Tim's bassists Jim Fielder and Jeff Eyrich have given Jann the thumbs up.

Jann has shared the stage with and/or opened for artists from all eras of music history including Rusted Root, Pat Benatar, Vonda Shepard, Jeffrey Gaines, THE VOICE's Rebecca Loebe, Gary Hoey, Suzanne Vega, Annie Haslam and Renaissance, Brett Dennen, Bret Michaels, and the late Pete Seeger and Les Paul.

RELIX's Nancy Dunham writes of MOSAIC, "Combine his songwriting and singing chops with his artful experimentation — songs include flavors of reggae, punk, and more — and you understand why Klose moves ever closer to pop-rock eminence."

Born in Germany, raised in Kenya, South Africa, and Hamburg, Jann, first, came to the States as an exchange student in Cleveland, He lives in the melting pot called New York City when he's not touring the world, playing between 75-100 shows a year in North America, Europe and Asia.

Branded "Old and Ugly" by the Press, Veteran Singer Collette McLafferty Reclaims Her Voice, One Headline At A Time

Working Performer Standing Up to Lawsuit Preventing Her from Singing Pink's Music In Concert

WIth over 1000 shows under her belt, a nod from MTV, and a worldwide, if cultish, fan base, Collette McLafferty is truly a music "lifer."  In an industry that brings new challenges with every year, the goal of the lifer is always the same: keep working and keep your audience happy.
Collette McLafferty looks fine to me.  Mighty fine!

McLafferty, 40, was thrust into the national news when she was unexpectedly served with a $10,000,000 lawsuit for her services  as a "hired gun" in a Pink tribute band called Funhouse. She was paid $75 for the show, accrued $3200 in legal bills with 13 allegations (including one that stated she was "unattractive") against her in a 112-page complaint. She never met the Plaintiff (who's name she has no reason to mention), but does confirm that he is a former drummer who became a Personal Injury attorney.

When she learned she may be locked into the court system for years, she finally took her own attorney's advice to speak out.

The New York Post requested an interview and actually printed the headline: SINGER SUED FOR BEING TOO OLD AND TOO UGLY FOR PINK COVER BAND. McLafferty was quite surprised to read the headline, "The lawsuit never said I was old and angry...only unattractive."

McLafferty recalls, "Celebrities deal with this everyday, working class musicians not so much." On the positive, it was "good to see Pink's picture next to mine."

Instead of the headline just going away, the "Old and Ugly" narrative made the national newswire and was picked up by Perez Hilton, and over 100 media outlets. Even law-focused publications referred to McLafferty as a "bad, ugly singer" who "ruined the Pink tribute band." Instead of actually listening to Ms. McLafferty's video on youtube, TV Show Arise Xchange reported allegations that "she couldn't carry a tune."

The classically-trained music lifer knew she had one of two choices: crawl up in a hole and hide, or face the music proudly and stand strong.

"40 is a gorgeous age for a woman. I make it a point to mention my age in interviews for that reason. If I had a nickel for every time someone told me that my 'window is closing,' I would be richer then Michael Bloomberg. I started hearing that when I turned 27. Guess what!  I'm gigging still!"

McLafferty is on a mission to empower lifers of any age, "As a working class musician, I'm constantly putting my name in front of new potential employers who usually do a search on me while reviewing my materials."

She has found some support. Commercial radio station 95.7 KJR spun tracks from her old band edibleRed. Time Magazine posted her singing competition from "Next Broadway Star," where she was one of 7 finalists, down from 6000 hopefuls. Her "MTV Buzzworthy" video "Hey Ya" surfaced on Clear Channel sites and I Heart Radio.

Fellow musician and noted journalist, Marisa Torrerri Bloom connected her with women's blog xoJane.com. Ms. McLafferty wrote an honest, raw and truthful account of her ordeal. Musicians from as far as the UK and Brazil wrote in their support, as did women from all over the world, touched and shocked by her story. After reading her account, the staff at Indiegogo reached out to help crowdfund for her legal bill.

"I felt it was crucial to tell my side, as this can happen to anyone. I also felt a newfound commitment to myself, as it forced me to stand up for myself while national headlines were referring to me as "old and ugly." I had to love myself through all of this. It was the only way I would survive. I think this can help any woman or girl stand up to the face of criticism from the media or society.

As for The Plaintiff, McLafferty bears no ill will, but would like to see an "appropriate outcome" to the situation, "It's hard to say what this seeming very angry ex-drummer might be dealing with, but my heart goes out to anybody who doesn't want others to sing someone else's songs, especially those by an artist like Pink, who sings about empowerment."

As a lifer, Collette McLafferty continues to gig. In addition to fronting both '80s/'90s band, Lavender Steel and '80s jam band, The Fred Savages, McLafferty appears in three films due out this year: "Stiffed," "Occupy Cannes!" and as a high school student on roller skates in "Return to Nuke Em High Volume 2." She was recently cast in a supporting role in "Center of The Universe" a Sci-FI Rock Musical.

McLafferty hopes her story will inspire other performers to stay strong in their "self worth, embrace everything they are, and sing out!" Keep up with her performance schedule at www.lavendersteelmusic.com

RENAISSANCE's SYMPHONY OF LIGHT Available As Classical Rock Band Plan 2014 Fall Shows

Symphony of Light's three bonus tracks include a song "Renaissance Man" dedicated to the memory of Michael Dunford, Renaissance's Late Great Songwriter and Guitarist

Renaissance have secured a distribution deal with Red River Entertainment, which now allows their new music to be heard worldwide.  The new album is called, SYMPHONY OF LIGHT and contains the songs of its 2012 release, GRANDINE IL VENTO, plus three bonus tracks: "Renaissance Man," "Immortal Beloved" and "Tonight.”

“Symphony of Light” is the title track-about and dedicated to Leonardo da Vinci.  Also featured is "Renaissance Man," written by leadsinger Annie Haslam and keyboardist Rave Tesar in honor of the late Michael Dunford.  Michael joined Renaissance in 1970; in January 1971 Annie joined the band.  They continued touring and recording until 1987. In 2009 the band reunited, spearheaded by Annie and Michael for their 40th Anniversary tour, they continued to tour and write new songs.

SYMPHONY OF LIGHT is now regarded as a true testament to the unforgettable melodies and love that Michael Dunford infused into his work. Michael died prematurely in late 2012 after GRANDINE was completed. The album starts off with powerful lyrics by Annie Haslam in the song "Symphony of Light" followed by "Waterfall," a song written about the rainforests in Brazil.  All the songs bathe the listener in flavors from far off countries, with lush orchestral arrangements and unusual lyrical content, with guest performances from Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull) and John Wetton (Asia).

SYMPHONY OF LIGHT's album cover was designed and painted by Annie Haslam, who has a flourishing career as an artist known for her unique, signature style.  Annie calls herself an “Intuitive Visionary Painter,” "I channel other dimensions, planes of existence, deep into space. I can tune into people, animals, situations, places, tangible and intangible, all from a simple thought and intention."

Annie has donated paintings to animal groups that include The Farm Sanctuary and the Humane Society of the United States for their fundraising auctions.  She paints musical instruments and has painted acoustic guitars for C.F. Martin Guitars (one of her guitars hangs in their museum) and electric violins manufactured by Mark Wood. Her work was on display at The Florence Biennale in Florence, ITALY in 2005. Fans have commented that looking at Annie's paintings is like looking at her music, and she displays her work at all her concerts for the fans to enjoy.

Nicholas J. Sands, director of Sands & Company Fine Art in New York City, heralded Annie's paintings as “magical, enigmatic and wondrous for their ability to take us to a far-away place… of fluid forms that are at once alien and familiar, primordial yet recognizable, which dance in an endless array of colors that are as rich and intense as molten lava.”

Renaissance is: Annie Haslam lead vocals, Rave Tesar keyboards, David J Keyes bass guitar, Jason Hart keyboards, Frank Pagano drums, Ryche Chlanda acoustic guitars.
