The Lonesome Prairie Dogs with Tammy Faye Starlite and Lenny Kaye at Joe’s Pub, January 2

The New Year’s Hank-O-Rama, New York’s longest-running tribute to country music’s greatest star, Hank Williams, will be at Joe’s Pub on Jan. 2, 2018, hosted by The Lonesome Prairie Dogs, and featuring Tammy Faye Starlite and Lenny Kaye, and special guests.

The 14th annual Hank-O-Rama, the first ever at Joe’s Pub, and the first NOT to be held on Jan. 1 (the official anniversary of Hank’s death 55 years ago), will be held January 2, 2018, at Joe’s Pub at 7 PM.
Joe’s Pub is at 425 Lafayette Street, in New York City.
Tickets are $15.
The venue phone is 212-967-7555.

The 14th annual Hank-O-Rama will include a re-creation of his morning WSFA radio show sponsored by Mother’s Best Flour, featuring Luke Lonesome as Hank, Tammy Faye Starlite as his wife Audrey Williams, and Lenny Kaye as Don Helms (edal steel guitarist for Hank’s band, the Drifting Cowboys).

In keeping with Hank-O tradition, the second half of the show will be a more freewheeling segment including The Lonesome Horns, with guest performances by some of the brightest stars from the NYC country firmament.

The Lonesome Prairie Dogs are among New York and Brooklyn country music’s most enduring honky tonk outfits. In 2004, the LPDs founded the Hank-O-Rama to pay tribute to one of America’s greatest songwriters, whose compositions include “Cold, Cold Heart,” “So Lonesome I Could Cry,” “I Saw the Light,” and “Hey, Good Lookin’,” among many, many others. Hank died at age 29 in the back of his Cadillac en route to a New Year’s Day gig in Canton, Ohio.

Tammy Faye Starlite is a singer and performance artist whose numerous works include the critically acclaimed, “Nico: Underground,” a tribute the iconic German chanteuse that was a member of the Velvet Underground, and “Rated X,” a celebration of country icon Loretta Lynn.  Rated X first brought Tammy together with Lenny Kaye and The Lonesome Prairie Dogs at Joe’s Pub in 2014.

Lenny Kaye is a guitarist, songwriter, producer and journalist, perhaps best known for his compilation of the Nuggets garage rock collection, his “autobiography” of Waylon Jennings, and his longtime collaboration with Patti Smith.  Most recently Lenny worked with Jessi Colter on a new album called PSALMS.

Launched at Arlene Grocery in 2004, the Hank-O then moved uptown to New York’s top honky tonk, The Rodeo Bar, where it was an institution for nine straight years, before the Rodeo closed down in 2014. The Hank-O had one-night stands at Midtown Live, Skinny Dennis and last year at Hank’s Saloon, before this year’s move to Joe’s Pub.

Love Family Some Negativity Winter 2017 Songs

It's that time of year when we love all kinds of people.  Let's face it, we have people we love whole-heartedly.  As for the people that make life harder for us, we pay attention because their stories are unique.   NOTHING AT ALL is a Gentle Giant song about a female crazy maker. It's special because it's a radio edit by mixer to the Prog Stars Steven Wilson.   Every other song is about all the different love we have for all the different people! Happy holidays!!!!

Dean Friedman’s new album “12 Songs” features YOUR PRETTY FACE.  His new love song is a slow, jazz-inspired ballad about how far Dean will travel to see your pretty face.
Indeed Dean is traveling to friends & colleagues in New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco. Say "hi" back, you pretty cool person!
Dean’s shows:
Dec. 2: NYC at the Bitter End, NY, NY
Dec. 9: Fort Mason Center for the Arts-Southside Theater, San Francisco
Dec. 10: Afternoon House Concert in Oakland, CA
Dec. 15: Coffee Gallery, Altadena, CA
Dec. 23: Kulak's Woodshed, North Hollywood, CA

BLUE CANOE BLUES: Phoebe Legere
Roots rock with electric guitar, female soprano. In the winter, there lake is frozen, and she has to wait for the spring when the ice melts to visit her true love. Native American singing including in song.

Ms. Legere’s Americana album, HEART OF LOVE broke Roots Music Radio’s Top 20 this year. In March her off-Broadway show, SPEED QUEEN debuts in New York City.

LEMONADE Alex Boye’: Afro-pop, tenor voice, electronics, joyful. “I used to be bitter, bitter, bitter or you can be better, better, better...Every day is like a brand new day.”  Watch and hear Alex live December 11 on Monday Night Football (Miami VS New England).

NOTHING AT ALL Gentle Giant (Steven Wilson Mix)
A girl who brought her own sadness to her by turning down potential loves. Lyrics:“The girl who has everything, and she has nothing at all.” Kindred to psychedelic Beatles meets Black Sabbath-styled guitar cords. This is a 4:54 radio edit of the original nine minute song.

Gentle Giant’s new release, THREE PIECE SUITE is Steve Wilson’s remixes on selected songs from the first 3 albums.  It also comes in Blu-Ray.

THE TRUTH I KNOW  Robert Wyckoff
Like an acoustic Marshall Tucker song, with lyrics about believing that people will be nicer. Hoping there will be no more hunger or lies.  My Soul Moves Music co-partner Karen Besbeck wrote this song about having faith in the human race.

PARALLEL REALITY Joe Deninzon & Stratospheerius

Electric violin and guitar-driven rock song about parenting, and missing his son while he's on the road. This month Joe is posting on his social media, asking friends for song ideas for his Spotify list on family, togetherness, holidays, friendship, feel good.

HOLIDAY SONGS
TCHACHKES LATKES Rachael Sage
With violin, this is old school with Rachael’s voice treated. Whimsical lyrics. So good to use: “onions peppers oy gevalt.” "Eight Days of tchachkes, can I have some more please?"

CHRISTMAS IS COMING Leo Schaff
song in motion like lots of people walking fast, upbeat tempo, Beach Boys’ styled harmony.
WHAT CHILD IS THIS the Atlanta Symphony Pops Orchestra & John Driskill Hopkins
A country twist with orchestra from John Driskill Hopkins, singer of the Zac Brown Band. Tempo changes throughout the piece.

LEMONADE, Alex Boye' Song About Turning A Negative Into A Positive!

If you’d like to help turn around any and all of today’s negativity, listen to Alex Boye’’s “Lemonade.”
Listen to this joyful song that says, “Every day is like a brand new day.”

Alex Boye’’s upbeat performances of pop hits, including Taylor Swift’s “SHAKE IT OFF” and his latest BELIEVE by Imagine Dragons define his empowering attitudes.  His song LEMONADE is an original, and much needed in today’s angry society:  The hook” “I used to be bitter, bitter, bitter or you can be better, better, better.”  Lyrics below.

Alex and his band are touring, currently, as “Artist of the Year” by the Hard Rock Cafe & Pepsi. They play the half-time show for Monday Night Football Dec. 11 (Miami Dolphins VS New England Patriots).

I, first, saw him live July 2015 when he was singing solos with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir in Carnegie Hall.  Alex has previous national TV exposure form appearing on America’s Got Talent in 2015.

LEMONADE
Performed by Alex Boye’

I'm just so broke you won't believe
Can't get a dollar out of me
And as far as I can see
I'm losing control like a bad disease
No I just can't get relief
I've been shot down by the life police
And everyday I try to rise
But I can't succeed
Can anybody find a cure for me?
You can be bitter, bitter, bitter
Or you can be better, better, better

When life gives you lemons
It's gonna be okay
Don't worry little children
And don't complain (woh)
Remember you're golden
So find some sugar cane
When life gives you lemons
Make lemonade

Hama kama hama kama heyama kama x4

Now every day is like a brand new year
I throw my hands up in the air
Like I just don't care
I'm moonwalking down the streets
Feeling like oh yeah (oh yeah!)
Like the bottom of the glass now I see clear
So now I laugh just a little more (Yeehehee!)
I stand much taller than I did before (Yahahaa!)
I know I'm not where I need to be
But I thank God that I'm not
Where I used to be
I used to be bitter, bitter bitter
And now I feel better, better, better

Ian Anderson Presents 50 Years of JETHRO TULL

Free, downloadable poster. Please share.
50th Anniversary Tour, US Summer 2018

It was on the 2nd of February 1968 at the world-famous Marquee Club in Wardour Street that Jethro Tull first performed under that name. The group would go on to become one of the most successful and enduring bands of their era, selling over 60 million albums worldwide and entering the cultural collective consciousness along the way.

To celebrate this golden anniversary, Ian Anderson will present 50 years of Jethro Tull in summertime U.S. concerts, as part of the worldwide touring schedule.

The debut album, This Was, was released later that same year.  Founder, frontman and flautist, Ian Anderson, is rightly credited with introducing the flute to rock as a front line instrument, not to mention the codpiece!

Jethro Tull are one of the biggest selling Progressive Rock artists of all time, and the group’s immense and diverse catalogue of work encompasses folk, blues, classical and heavy rock stylings. The anniversary concerts will feature a broad mix of material, some of it focussing on the earlier formative period through to the “heavy hitters” of the Tull catalogue from the albums This Was, Stand Up, Benefit, Aqualung, Thick As A Brick, Too Old To Rock And Roll: Too Young To Die, Songs From The Wood, Heavy Horses, Crest Of A Knave and even a touch of TAAB2 from 2012.

Anderson says:  “I am not usually a birthday or anniversary kind of guy but, just for once, I won't be a party-pooper either! I treasure the memories of the earlier years of Jethro Tull repertoire, associated as it is with the adventures of visiting so many countries for the first time to connect with new fans around the world. And this is a celebration of all the 33 band members who graced our ranks - musicians who brought their talents, skills and styles to bear on the performances live and in the studio. Join me and the current band for a nostalgic evening of varied music, representative of my ever-changing songwriting as our careers progressed through the years.”

Ian Anderson is accompanied by Tull band musicians David Goodier (bass), John O'Hara (keyboards), Florian Opahle (guitar), Scott Hammond (drums) and surprise virtual guests

About Jethro Tull

Behind The Curtain, song about transparency by Joe Deninzon

Election week, and news of our nation and world leaders, plus those JFK conspiracy theories at Watercoolers, Messengers, and Beauty Parlors all over.
This is Joe Deninzon & Stratospheerius’ BEHIND THE CURTAIN, which deals with transparency!
Electric violin-fueled progressive hard rock! A song that talks about the masks we all wear in public. Questioning public figures, corporations, politicians. Conspiracies. Similar tempo to Black Sabbath’s PARANOID. The song uses lots of “Oz” keywords: “Pay No Attention to the Man Behind The Curtain.” “Click your heels 3 times.” Similar tempo to Black Sabbath’s PARANOID.
Joe does sessions, string arrangements, co-writes; he wrote the electric violin technique book, PLUGGIN’ IN for Mel Bay books. Recently he’s performed live with Renaissance, Bruce Springsteen, Peter Criss, and the Muncie Symphony Orchestra…

BEHIND THE CURTAIN
by Joe Deninzon & Stratospheerius
Running on inertia
Propped up fake euphoria
Paper thin disguises
Human skin behind them
We suppress the demons
Feel the hunger grumbling
Show your poker face and dodge the lightning
Nothing is certain
Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain
Wear the mask so righteous
Quick to judge the careless
Those who free the monster
Living in glass houses
Stare at our reflection
Cracking through the mirror
Feel them breathing down your neck they’re coming nearer
Dig the dirt in
Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain
Click your heels three times and wish for the courage
To fight tornadoes that smash you to pieces
Free yourself up and they’ll chain you forever

Welcome to the circus
It’s your biggest nightmare
Wear the scarlet letter
Scrutinized forever
All the doors are bolted
You can’t find your way home
Everybody knows your name You feel so alone
Put your mask on
And tuck your shirt in
Pay no attention to the
Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain

Christmas 2017 Songs: Jody Quine, Dan Berggren, Ian Anderson, Carducci Quartet...

Got My Eye On You, Santa: Jody Quine & the Big Mr. C  (Optimistic Kitty)
“Got My Eye on You, Santa” was created in the magical workshops of Jody, Mr. C (aka Dan Berggren, who worked in American Forces Radio in the late 1960s). The song GOT MY EYE ON YOU, SANTA was written by Anne Leighton, music director/songwriter Roberta Piket, and songwriter Priscilla Harriett. The song’s message transcends all barriers, “Santa, I love you, and I’ve got magical presence and presents for you, created in MY workshop.” “Santa” appears on the compilation “Let's Have a Rockin Christmas Volume 2” by Bongo Boy Records.

Ring Out These Bells (Ring Out, Solstice Bells): Ian Anderson & the Carducci Quartet (The End/BMG)

Ian Anderson’s “Ring Out These bells” (Ring Out, Solstice Bells) first appeared on Jethro Tull’s tenth studio album, “SONGS FROM THE WOOD.”  With merriment and folklore imagery, the song has found different arrangements and life on 2003’s JETHRO TULL CHRISTMAS ALBUM and 2009’s CHRISTMAS ALBUM.  This year JETHRO TULL THE STRING QUARTETS, Ian’s collaboration with the Carducci Quartet was released, and hit number 1 on the Classical Music Charts.

October: Songs of Kindness for Soul Moves Music

We need a little kindness, and music brings it.

ENDOMORPH (Dedicated to My Parents) Allan Holdsworth
Vocals by Craig Copeland

Free flowing, jazz-influenced, slow.  Allan's synthaxe and a celestial tenor play slow and enchanting:  "there was a time."
The lyrics are about unfinished business—words never said to a love.

TOO GONE, TOO YOUNG by Hank Wedel

Hank wrote "Listen" for Christy Moore, and lives in County Cork. TOO GONE, TOO YOUNG is about a late, great friend who “always had the best boots, he really knew his leather.”  hook: “Living in the land of love.” Tempo will remind you of John Stewart’s “GOLD.”

PARALLEL REALITY  Joe Deninzon & Stratospheerius About parenting, and missing his son while he's on the road. Like a faster and heavier “High Fly” (John Miles hit). Bad ass drums. It's about how tour life is a fantasy world; a parallel existence that is fleeting. Hence the line "a fleeting kiss is all this is."   (P.S. Yes, that is Joe's son Max Deninzon that did the art work for the album!)

BEHIND THE CURTAIN  Joe Deninzon Stratospheerius

Joe is asking for an honest world, and not getting answers from public figures, corporations, politicians!  Electric violin-fueled progressive hard rock! A song that talks about the masks we all wear in public. Conspiracies! The song uses lots of “Wizard Oz” keywords: “Pay No Attention to the Man Behind The Curtain.” “Click your heels 3 times.” Similar tempo to Black Sabbath’s PARANOID.

SISTERSONG by Rachael Sage

Imagine if all the women agreed to dialogue with one another as opposed to about one another. Keyword: "I will stay with you... I will keep you company... that's what sisters do."  A fan posts, "I used to think Ani DiFranco or Tori Amos wrote this song..."

NOBODY'S TALKING Gary Lucas & Jann Klose

Both Gary and Jann sing on this acoustic “zombies on cell-phones that short-circuit meaningful dialogue” song. Saxophone included. “J-sweet” is a technical term related to hacking using Java. P.S. How many years have we been asking our friends in the same room to talk to us, not their cellphones?

TOUCH OF KINDNESS Elliott Murphy

Rebuilding self-esteem through kindness.  jangly guitar.  TOUCH OF KINDNESS was number one in Belgium!

Electric Strawbs Fall Tour, Northeast U.S. Nov. 10-21

“Brilliant.”  “Spellbinding.”  “Original.”  “Passionate.”  These are words that respected music journalists have used to describe Strawbs live…today.

With five decades of colorful history behind them, Strawbs evolved from 1960s British Folk Movement roots to a powerful and enduring force in progressive rock music. Led by the charismatic David Cousins, who has been called the most talented Dylan-influenced songwriter to come out of England, Strawbs dynamic performances, marked by impassioned vocals, tight harmonies, and precise instrumentation are exciting, lush and timeless.

With Cousins at the forefront (vocals, guitar, dulcimer and banjo), Chas Cronk on bass, Dave Lambert (lead guitar and vocals), and Tony Fernandez on drums, today’s Strawbs look very similar to those who brought us some of our favorite classic rock albums, including the iconic "Hero & Heroine,” ranked by Rolling Stone Magazine in 2015 as one of the top 50 progressive rock albums of all time).   New to this veteran Strawbs line-up (a line-up that has through the band’s existence included music legends Sandy Denny, Rick Wakeman and Blue Weaver), is Dave Bainbridge, a keyboard virtuoso who has mesmerized audiences across Europe and North America while performing with his Celtic folk/rock band Iona.

Strawbs return to the USA  with  “Chapter & Verse,” a very special tour that will include a live performance of the extraordinary "Hero & Heroine" along with a generous sampling of  "The Ferryman's Curse." Strawbs' first all-new album since 2008, and the secrets and stories that have seduced prog rockers for a half century.  Join us!

Joe Deninzon & Stratospheerius’ new album, GUILTY OF INNOCENCE Out Now on Melodic Revolution Records

Joe Deninzon & Stratospheerius’ new album, GUILTY OF INNOCENCE (Melodic Revolution Records) is now in stores, both online and in the real world.

Along with the album’s release, Deninzon is touring actively this fall with Stratospheerius, as well as his Latin jazz String Quartet Sweet Plantain (who also will be part of classic rock group Renaissance’s concerts for the recording of their upcoming Symphonic Album. Joe is soloing on electric violin for the performances, as well).

Joe & Stratospheerius are rocking PROGTOBERFEST, in Chicago, on Saturday night October 22. They are having record release shows in favorite towns in the Midwest and the New York area, including the PROG HOUSE (Roxy & Duke’s in Dunellen, NJ) and on three SonicVoyage Fest dates this fall. See tour dates below.

Released on Melodic Revolution Records, a leading progressive rock label based in the U.S., GUILTY OF INNOCENCE features 10 tracks. Most of the album’s songs fuse lyrical and sonic elements heard in Tool, Tom Morello, Jack Bruce, and Jean-Luc Ponty. "Dream Diary Cadenza” is an instrumental solo piece from Joe's "DREAM DIARY" Concerto for Orchestra and Electric Violin, which he debuted with the Muncie Symphony Orchestra in 2015.  The album’s closing song is an epic 12 -minute piece which has Joe singing, “If music be the food of love, play on." The song features Testament/TSO/Metal Allegiance guitarist Alex Skolnick, Renaissance’s keyboardist Rave Tesar, and the Fringe’s Randy McStine.

Stratospheerius' members include French guitarist Aurelien Budynek (Cindy Blackman, Vernon Reid), bassist Jamie Bishop (The Syn, Francis Dunnery), and drummer Lucianna Padmore, praised by Modern Drummer Magazine for her “Deep grooves and serious fusion chops.” Lucianna wrote “Affluenza,” on the album, and Joe wrote everything else except for “Hysteria,” a reimagined, Queen-esque version of the hit by the UK band Muse.

Joe produced the album. Engineers on the album are Rave Tesar, Alex Salzman, Tom Tedesco, and Joe.  Mixed by Alex Salzman. Nic Hard, and Joe Deninzon. Mastered by Rave Tesar.

Reviews of GUILTY OF INNOCENCE have been exciting. Zachary Nathanson’s MUSIC FROM THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ROOM blog states, “While Joe’s vocal arrangements are brilliant, alongside his electric violin comparing to Curved Air’s Darryl Way, Mahavishnu Orchestra’s Jerry Goodman, and Frank Zappa alumni Jean-Luc Ponty, they take inspirations between Zappa, King Crimson, Yes, and Muse…Guilty of Innocence is not only great, but one of the most hectic and heart-stopping albums I’ve listened to.”

Writes Haydn Seek at SkeletonPete.com: “Deninzon and company’s virtuosity is undeniable, but their arrangements smartly favor the integrity of the song. Like the best heavy rock tunes of the past, soloing is integral to structure rather than presented for the sake of blowing. It’s progressive music that’s not afraid of a catchy chorus. Even the 12 minute closing track “Soul Food” is a well crafted multi-tempo road trip. It ventures into magnum opus territory where ’70s rockers Kansas were at home, and features guest artist guitarist Alex Skolnick.”

Warlock Asylum International News loves Joe’s cover of Muse’s “Hysteria.” “Deninzon’s perfect vocal delivery and skills as a violinist. Stratospheerius is as tight as ever and really create a strong organic melody comparable to the original. Bravo! This is music!”

Joe Deninzon & Stratospheerius has showcased their “frenzied melange of progressive rock, jazz fusion and funkabilly” at colleges, festivals, and clubs throughout the US and has opened for Tim Reynolds, Mickey Hart (Grateful Dead), Martin Barre (Jethro Tull), Mike Stern, Project Object, and John Scofield. The group was a winner of the John Lennon International Songwriting Competition and the Musicians Atlas Independent Music Awards, and Joe is a repeat recipient of a BMI Jazz composers award. A favorite among violinists everywhere and an active clinician, Joe is the author of the Mel Bay-published book, ”Plugging In: A Guide to Gear and New Techniques for the 21st Century.”

What the critics have said.
“Stratospheerius does not play what you want; it plays things you didn’t know you wanted.”
– Dan Roth, Progression
“combines solid songwriting and tradition with extraordinary electric violin work and the sounds of the future.”
– Angel Romero, Progressive Rock Central
“Think a bit of Zappa, the Dixie Dregs or Blues Traveler, with the violin being the focal point. Violinist & singer Joe Deninzon’s talents are flat out phenomenal, and the progressive rock tapestry he weaves around himself is carried out to perfection by his amazing band.”
– Mark Waterbury, Music Morsels
“Memorable hooks, gravity-defying instrumental prowess, and a kitchen sink move toward rock If Bela Fleck and Frank Zappa had a love child in outer space, they might grow up to sound like these guys do.”
– David Budin,  CoolCleveland.com
