The Gipsy Kings' 25th Anniversary U.S. Tour, January 17-25

Leading World Music Band Returns to the USA to Kick Off 25 Year Celebration

The Gipsy Kings will be kicking off their 25th Anniversary in support of the group's new album SAVOR FLAMENCO on Knitting Factory Records, with dates starting on the East Coast in January 2014.  SAVOR FLAMENCO is the group's first new release in six years. The project marks The Gipsy Kings' 25th Anniversary of their first U.S. Release, GIPSY KINGS in 1987.  It is also the first time in the group's storied career that the Kings have produced themselves and written all of their material.

Please stay tuned to the band's web site www.gipsykings.com for more show dates.

The group is conducting advance interviews on SKYPE for the 25th Anniversary Tour.  We will have a translator on hand because group members speak fluent French and minimal English.

Based on Camargue, the very famous land by the Mediterranean Sea, the Gipsy Kings are made up of two families--the Reyes family from Arles and the Baliardos from Montpellier.  The musical adventure of these two families started in the 1960s when Jose Reyes was singing with Manitas de Plata (Ricardo Baliardo) performing all around the world in theaters including Carnegie Hall in New York City. There is music by Manitas de Plata y Jose Reyes on youtube.  Their fans included Pablo Picasso, Salvador DalĂ, Miles Davis and Charlie Chaplin.

When the duo parted ways, Jose Reyes became even more popular after starting his own band, Los Reyes.  His sons backed him up.  When the elder Reyes passed away in 1979, Nicolas and Andre began playing with the Baliardo brothers in Les Saintes Maries de la Mer during the The Gypsy's Pilgrimage.  They traveled, busking nearby on the streets of Saint-Tropez, performing on beaches during the day and for celebrities such as Brigitte Bardot by night. "Los Reyes" means "The Kings," and the band changed their name to The Gipsy Kings.

The Gipsy Kings' musical style has been called "Rumba Flamenca" which allows The Gipsy Kings to combine traditional flamenco styles with Western Pop and Latin rhythms, Latin and Cuban styles, Arabic, reggae, jazz, and--of course--gypsy styles!

The band speaks French, and performs music in Spanish dialect of Gitane, the native Gipsy language, that is a mixture of Spanish, French, and Catalan.  The root of the Gitane culture is in the southern part of Spain that includes Seville and Granada. One of the economically depressed areas of Europe, this region has given the world flamenco music, bullfighting and Moorish-influenced Architecture.  The people in that area are known as "Gitanos,"  Spanish Romani people who fled Catalonia during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939).  (The term "gitano" comes from "Egiptano," a Spanish term for "Egyptian" as the English word "Gypsy" comes from "Egyptian.")

The Gipsy Kings have sold over 25 million albums worldwide.

The Gipsy Kings' first U.S. album, GIPSY KINGS was released in the United States in 1987, and charted for 40 weeks. This 25 year old album has been certified gold or platinum in at least 15 countries.  The group is a multi-GRAMMY-nominated act.

The single from GIPSY KINGS was "Bamboleo," which was used in a Burger King commercial and recently covered on the TV show, GLEE.

The Gipsy Kings' "Hotel California" is in the movie, THE BIG LEBOWSKI and HBO series ENTOURAGE.

The 2010 film TOY STORY 3 featured a Gipsy Kings version of the movie's popular, Randy Newman-penned theme, "You've Got a Friend in Me."  The band also performed the song on DANCING WITH THE STARS.

PBS filmed a documentary about The Gipsy Kings called TIERRA GITANA.

Jann Klose's "Make It Better" Music Video Offers Collaborative Message

Singer-songwriter's upbeat and topical video filmed in the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Manhattan
Please view video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stEjfSzO9CQ

Jann Klose's new music video MAKE IT BETTER is a performance clip with song lyrics included in 3D.  Lines like "#MAKEITBETTER," "GREAT DIVIDE," and "IF YOU DON'T KNOW LOVE YOU DON'T KNOW LIFE" reflect the song's collaborative message that pushes for marriage equality, respect for the working class, and ending war.

MAKE IT BETTER is the opening track on Jann's brand new album, MOSAIC, and has received critical acclaim, including a variety of comparisons: "The Clash meets world music," splitting "the difference between Paul McCartney and Bruce Springsteen," and "mid-career Clapton-flavored."

Filmed over two days in three of New York City's boroughs, the music video for MAKE IT BETTER is the collaboration of Jann and filmmaker/cinematographer Yael Shulman.  Using guerrilla techniques, the two (plus a production assistant) carried Yael's camera and tripod, Jann's guitar, and a change of clothes in New York City subways, starting near the Bronx Supreme Courthouse, then to Manhattan's Washington Square Park, and ending up at Brooklyn's D.U.M.B.O. and waterfront.  Jann's New York City fanbase was notified of location shoots through his Facebook and Twitter Feeds, and joined the shoot.

Yael states, "We did not use lights; we used available lighting, shooting during the day." Jann explains, "The segment in which everyone thinks I'm playing a subway platform really is a building entrance in the Bronx with mosaic tiles."

In conjunction with the guerrilla and collaborative message of MAKE IT BETTER's urban slice of life and the American melting pot, Jann, Yael, and their friends did instant casting by inviting a range of people to look into the camera, "In New York City it is easy to find people of multicultural backgrounds and diverse lifestyles."

Jann Klose, a multi-cultural artist, born in Germany, raised in Kenya, South Africa, and Germany, first came to the States as an exchange student in Cleveland.  Now based in New York City, his new album MOSAIC is currently charting on the AMA (Americana Radio) charts.  Jann sings and plays guitar for Tim Buckley's parts in the movie GREETINGS FROM TIM BUCKLEY (out on DVD/Blu-Ray).  His music is heard on the GRAMMY-nominated "Healthy Food For Thought" compilation, MTV CRIBS and movies, "Dead Broke" (Warner Bros.) featuring Paul Sorvino.  TIME Magazine Columnist Joel Stein pranked Jann in his column recently. He's co-writing songs and performing with Gary Lucas (Captain Beefheart, Jeff Buckley), and poet Larry Beckett (Tim Buckley).  Jann has opened for or shared the stage with Renaissance's Annie Haslam, members of Rusted Root, Brett Dennen, Suzanne Vega, Pete Seeger, and the late Les Paul.

Yael Shulman helms many music videos for some of New York City's cool rap and hip hop bands.  Recently she handled Live Performance Camera for the rock documentary "Mistaken For Strangers" which was the opening night film of the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival.

Stratospheerius Present Their New Music Video “One Foot In The Next World”

Director and Videographer Bill Hamilton Brings His Unique Vision to the First Single From The Next World, Stratospheerius’ Fifth and Most Eclectic Album-To-Date
Stratospheerius Live

Stratospheerius CD, The Next World, available at: www.digital-nations.com
and iTunes.com, www.amazon.comhttp://www.amazon.com
http://www.joedeninzon.com/
"One Foot In The Next World" http://www.youtube.com

Joe Deninzon and Stratospheerius have a new music video, ONE FOOT IN THE NEXT WORLD.  RIVEVIDEO will be promoting it.  Says RiveVideo owner John Warden, "I really feel this song has all of the rock elements for their hardcore fans, but it also definitely has a Pop sensibility that we want to expose.  I even made the target list ‘wider’ to accommodate the sound of the video and to push the envelope for the video of 'One Foot In The Next World.'"

Joe Deninzon and long time video collaborator Bill Hamilton created the video concept based on the band's song "One Foot in the Next World," which attacks politicians and preachers who’s philosophies and policies are not based on reality.

Director Bill Hamilton filmed the band -- Joe Deninzon on electric violin and lead vocals, Aurelien Budynek on guitar and vocals, Jamie Bishop on bass and drummer Lucianna Padmore – in front of an abandoned blast furnace at Bethlehem Steelstax and in Hamilton’s own studio (http://www.beelmedia.com) in Hoboken, NJ.  By combining the Steelstax footage with images of a fire dancer (Bulgarian gymnastics star Silviya Taseva) and shots of Deninzon singing the song underwater, Hamilton created a clip that implies the endless struggle between fire and water, heaven and hell, creation and destruction, reality and fantasy.

Musically, “One Foot in the Next World” starts  as a straight up rocker, slips into a raga-like interlude for guitar and violin, then features an improvised section that calls to mind the explorations of the Mahavishnu Orchestra. Deninzon’s violin work is the thread that holds the tapestry together.

The video can be viewed on YouTube at  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u7ad4iCYIOI&feature=youtu.be
It is available for uploading and posting on blogs and websites.

Stratospheerius songs, written by singer/bandleader/electric violinist Joe Deninzon, blend rock, funk, jazz, classical, fusion, singer-songwriter, metal and Eastern European gypsy influences. It’s a mix that makes the music of Stratospheerius hard to pin down. “I hate to use labels,” Joe says. “If we had to use just one, I would call us a progressive rock band, although there are elements of be-bop, ska, pop, bluegrass and everything else in our sound.”

Joe, who has been called “the Jimi Hendrix of the electric violin,” was born in Russia and raised in Cleveland, in a home full of classically trained musicians. He grew up playing classical violin and rock guitar, but hearing Jean-Luc Ponty inspired him to merge his interests. He began blending jazz, classical and rock into his own unique expression. He started playing a six-string Jensen electric violin in 1995, slowly developing his vision for Stratospheerius over the course of five outstanding albums: 1998’s Electric/Blue, credited solely to Deninzon; The Adventures of Stratospheerius (2002); the live set Live Wires (2004); Headspace (2007) and their latest outing The Next World (2012), which debuted on the Relix Jam Band Chart at #10, staying on the charts for the next two months.

“The Next World is moving in a slightly more mainstream direction,” Deninzon explains. “There is more emphasis on the lyrics and songwriting, a bit more rock and a lot of political commentary.” The band launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the video, the post-apocalyptic vision of “One Foot in the Next World.”

The Next World also features the fiery “Gods,” the energetic power clash of “The Missing Link” and the glorious “Release.” The album's instrumentals include the whiplash-inducing “Road Rage,” the soulful “Ballad for Ding Bang,” and “Fleshbot.” Stratospheerius does more genre bending on the electronic/ska of “Tech Support,” the country rock ballad “Climbing” and the bluesy “The House Always Wins.”

Joe is also busy promoting his first book, PLUGGING IN: A Guide To Gear and New Techniques for the 21st Century Violinist (Mel Bay Books, May 2012) http://www.melbay.com/product.asp?productid=22035SET  He gives frequent workshops on electric violin technique. While leading Stratospheerius since 2001, he has worked with Bruce Springsteen, Sheryl Crow, Les Paul, Phoebe Snow, Ritchie Blackmore, and Aretha Franklin. He can be heard on over 100 recordings and jingles as a violinist and string arranger, including the NIKE commercial that was repeatedly broadcast during the London Olympics in 2012.

Ever since Jann Klose sang and played guitar for Tim Buckley's parts in the movie, GREETINGS FROM TIM BUCKLEY (due on DVD/Blu Ray September 17) he's been on a journey to find out what made Tim Buckley tick as an artist.  This included connecting with some of Tim's collaborators, including (original bandmate and bassist) Jim Fielder and (poet/lyricist) Larry Beckett.  The three performed shows in the Pacific Northwest in Beckett and Fielder's hometown of Portland (August 21) and in Seattle (August 24).

Larry, who co-wrote many of Tim Buckley's songs including "Song To the Siren," which Jann covered on his current album, MOSAIC, is now writing songs with Jann. The first two songs are SUGAR DADDY and AFTER THE LAST.  Jann and Larry are BMI songwriters, and look forward to creating more music together.

A prolific songwriter, Jann is also collaborating with Gary Lucas (Jeff Buckley, Captain Beefheart) and Dan Beck (Dion), and has written with Annie Haslam and David Bendeth, who co-produced MOSAIC with Jann and James Frazee (Esperanza Spalding, Blondie, My Morning Jacket).

The LAist's Matthew Bramlett states, Jann "can be accurately described as the man chosen to carry on the legacy of great musicians like Tim Buckley and Paul McCartney."

Jann Klose's MAKE IT BETTER available for Supreme Court Equality News

"Make It Better" from MOSAIC:

Singer-Songwriter's Soon-to-Be-Famous Quote, "If You Don't Know Love, You Don't Know Life"

Jann Klose's song MAKE IT BETTER is available for theme and bumper music for media discussions and segments on equal rights, economics, and voting topics.  The song appears on Jann's new album, MOSAIC, which is available on iTunes and Amazon.

Born in Germany, raised in Kenya and South Africa, Jann first came to the States as an exchange student in Cleveland, Ohio. Now living in the Bronx, Jann recently sang at the Bronx Supreme Court in support of the LGBTQ & Allies Awards.  He has worked with Borough President Ruben Diaz on relief efforts for those affected by Hurricane Sandy.

Music critic Jim Sullivan (jimsullivanink.com) wrote he was "immediately struck" by MOSAIC's "sweeping opening track 'Make It Better,' which begins with 'Welcome to the world of the great divide/Where the rich get rich and the poor stay poor all of the time.' He stands up for human rights, gay rights in one key verse, and boasts the line 'If you don’t know love, you don’t know life.'"

Continues Sullivan on "Make It Better, "It’s also got a reggae/rock feel that reminds me of something the Clash might have done in their 'Sandinista!' period. Sings Klose: 'It’s not too late to give up hate/You and I can make it better and help to cross that big divide.' It soars, it sweeps you up."

Another new Jann supporter is TIME MAGAZINE's Joel Stein, who mentions Jann in his June 24th column, with the comments, "It's hard to disagree with the impact music and the arts have on today's youth."

Jann's song MAKE IT BETTER will be the subject of his first music video, which he's working on now.  We are promoting the song, "Make It Better" through--at least--Election Day.

Jann is available for interviews, and there is a lot to talk about including singing Tim Buckley's parts in the Tribeca Film/Focus World movie, GREETINGS FROM TIM BUCKLEY.

In addition to touring internationally, when he's home in New York City, Jann's been co-writing songs and performing with Gary Lucas (Captain Beefheart, Jeff Buckley).  He has shared the stage with a variety of performers including Pete Seeger, Renaissance's Annie Haslam, Jeffrey Gaines, Rusted Root, Rosanne Cash, Marty Stuart, Roger McGuinn, and the late Les Paul. Jann's music is heard on the GRAMMY nominated "Healthy Food For Thought" compilation, MTV CRIBS and movies, "Dead Broke" (Warner Bros.) featuring Paul Sorvino.

Jann Klose Releases New Album MOSAIC on iTunes June 25

Singer Songwriter Praised And Pranked By TIME'S Joel Stein, WFUV's Vin Scelsa and Boston Music Critic Jim Sullivan

"Make It Better" from MOSAIC:

On the eve of the release of Jann Klose's album, MOSAIC on iTunes and Amazon (June 25), people are coming out of the woodwork with truly unique support for this multi-cultural singer-songwriter and his music.

In his June 24th column, TIME MAGAZINE's Joel Stein writes of his paying intern for Joel's Charitybuzz auction (Eric Poses, Inventor of Loaded Questions) pretending to be Joel and writing the German-born pop musician a note with the profound statement, "It's hard to disagree with the impact music and the arts have on today's youth."

WFUV's Vin Scelsa devoted two of his trademark monologues to Jann and played two songs from MOSAIC: "On and On" and his cover of Tim's SONG TO THE SIREN on his radio show, IDIOTS DELIGHT.

Music critic Jim Sullivan wrote he was "immediately struck" by MOSAIC's "sweeping opening track 'Make It Better,' which begins with 'Welcome to the world of the great divide/Where the rich get rich and the poor stay poor all of the time.' He stands up for human rights, gay rights in one key verse, and boasts the line 'If you don’t know love, you don’t know life.' It’s also got a reggae/rock feel that reminds me of something the Clash might have done in their “Sandinista!” period. Sings Klose: 'It’s not too late to give up hate/You and I can make it better and help to cross that big divide.' It soars, it sweeps you up."

Jann's song MAKE IT BETTER will be the subject of his first music video, which he's working on now.  We are promoting the song, "Make It Better" through--at least--Election Day.

Jann is available for interviews, and there is a lot to talk about including his new album, MOSAIC and singing Tim Buckley's parts in the Tribeca Film/Focus World movie, GREETINGS FROM TIM BUCKLEY.

MOSAIC (People Records) can easily be called a sonic, lyrical and emotional pop/rock mosaic from an artist, who is known as one with multi-cultural roots and an equally widely-faceted career and a voice that Public Radio’s Barb Heller says, “could sing the phonebook.'

Jann's co-writing songs and performing with Gary Lucas, and has shared the stage with Gary Hoey, Jeffrey Gaines, Renaissance's Annie Haslam, Rusted Root, Vonda Shepard, Pete Seeger, and the late Les Paul. Jann's music is heard on the GRAMMY nominated "Healthy Food For Thought" compilation, MTV CRIBS and movies, "Dead Broke" (Warner Bros.) featuring Paul Sorvino.

Special Message from Joe Deninzon on The Bronx's David Gotay

Please Help My Friend David in the Fight for His Life!
Stratospheerius Band Letter I first met David Gotay at a recording session in 2000. I had been living in New York for two years. I had just graduated from Manhattan School of Music and was trying to make my way as a freelance musician. At the session, we instantly hit it off. We were part of a string quartet accompanying the band Illuminati, a well known jam band in New York. I was impressed with David's musicianship and his sense of humor and warmth. We stayed in touch over the years and played in many orchestras and recording sessions together. When I was asked to form a rock string quartet to play private events, David was my first choice for cello. He had amazing classical chops and a great sense of groove, nurtured by his love of funk and hip hop, which he obsessively listened to growing up in the Bronx in the 80's. He would be the first guy I call whenever I need a cellist for a recording session.

I also became a huge fan of David's quartet, Sweet Plantain, which became one of the hottest genre-crossing groups in the New York scene. I was amazed by the way in which they mixed Hip Hop, jazz, classical, and Latin flavors. Dave brought the hip hop element into the group and was acting as manager. With his charm, and organizational skills, the group was touring all over the world and it's following was growing rapidly. It was exciting for me to witness it because I felt like I knew these guys from the beginning.

There was no other band like this! I truly believed this band could do great things and reach the level of great world-renowned genre crossing string quartets like Turtle Island and Kronos. In 2010, Dave asked me to join the group and I was thrilled! We had a great chemistry and it felt like a family. There were a lot of laughs and magical moments shared on and off stage. We had a blast touring all over the world, and are looking forward to great things happening in 2013 and beyond.

Last year, the group was picked up by Joanne Rile Management and there are some incredible prospects in the works.

I could not think of another cellist who could rap, play electric and acoustic cello, and write amazing music with Dave's unique combination of influences. Without David, this group simply could not exist. Not just because he is irreplaceable as a cellist and composer with classical, jazz, and hip hop influences, but also as a proactive person with great managerial skills who has rallied the troops and has kept the group going, getting us the gigs, following up with presenters, organizing showcases, etc. He did most of the grunt work so the group can keep touring and building its audience.

I consider David one of my closest friends. He is at his core a warm and decent person who is loyal to his family and friends and always has your back. A great husband, brother, uncle, son, and friend. Dave is loved by so many people because he is easy to love. It is rare to meet people like Dave in this world, and when you do, you should hold on to them. These people are precious. We all want Dave to be around for a long, long time to come. On a personal note, I hope to keep make music with this man many years from now.

At the end of April, 2013, Dave woke up one morning with no feeling in his right arm. Doctors mistakenly told him it was Brachial Nuritis, a rare viral nerve disease which could be cured on its own with physical therapy. On May 9th, David had a series of MRI's and was diagnosed with Stage IV Renal Cell Carciroma-kidney cancer that had spread undetected to his brain and lungs. The diagnosis was a total shock. David first went to the doctor for what he had thought was a simple strain injury in his right arm from too much time on the cello, only to discover he had a brain tumor, an infected kidney, and 35 tumors in his lungs. Today, David is in the fight for his life.

David's insurance through the Musician's Union is ridiculously limited and limiting. It doesn't cover hospitalization nor many of the treatments he will need. Cancer is expensive!

And remember, he is a freelance musician. There are no paid sick days for artists! Every day he spends in treatment fighting this cancer is a day he doesn't earn money. David and his wife Yuko (who is also a musician) were proud to buy their first home last year., and are now saddled with mortgage payments.

Our listed goal is to raise $40,000. Our REAL goal is to raise $200,000-and believe us, David is worth every penny!

So please search within your heart and dig deep into your pockets. David and his family are counting on your generosity.

This is why we are asking for your support.

Please donate to help David in the fight for his life.

BLACKMORE'S NIGHT'S DANCER AND THE MOON album due June 11 on Frontiers Records

Singer/songwriter Candice Night available for interviews in support of album

Blackmore's Night is releasing their brand new album, DANCER AND THE MOON, on June 11th in North America on Frontiers Records. DANCER AND THE MOON will be released in 2 editions--as a CD and a digipak deluxe edition with a bonus DVD that includes music videos of "Dancer And The Moon" and of "The Moon Is Shining (Somewhere Over The Sea)," plus an extensive interview with Ritchie Blackmore and Candice Night.

Anticipated by the digital release of the first single “The Moon is Shining (Somewhere Over the Sea)” on May 6th, DANCER AND THE MOON is the band's 8th original studio album, with each disc topping the European and American Billboard's New Age charts.

Each album that Blackmore's Night has released has been awarded Best Vocal Album or Album of the year for their respective charts on NPR and college radio. Blackmore's Night performed on PBS, had specials on CNN and the History Channel.  The group has songs on the soundtrack of Germany's THE MAGICAL STORY OF THE RINGS: DIE NIBELUNGER THE RING OF THE NIBELUNGS and the theme song "All For One" for Japan's popular TV show, THIRD WATCH. Their song "Olde Mill Inn" is featured in Jim Carrey's movie, YES MAN.  So many honors, placements--the list goes on and on.

Formed in 1997 by Candice Night and Ritchie Blackmore, the two began working together first in Ritchie's previous group Rainbow, when Candice co-wrote a number of songs, most notably "Ariel" and "Black Masquerade" for Rainbow's 1996 album, STRANGER IN US ALL.

The following year, the two formed Blackmore's Night, and after seven studio albums, two live DVD/CDs and one holiday release, the group's latest album, DANCER AND THE MOON follows the band's eclectic/jam/folk rock/new age/neo-Celtic/neo-Medieval/progressive rock/chamber pop/world beat styling. Take your pick from the songwriting team of Candice and Ritchie: the acoustic "Somewhere Over the Sea (The Moon Is Shining), the rocking  track "The Moon Is Shining (Somewhere Over The Sea)," which you can dance to, along with the title track "Dancer and the Moon," the nature-inspired "The Last Leaf" and the Russian-influenced "Troika."

Blackmore's Night own their versions of classic rock chestnuts:  Randy Newman's  "I Think It's Going to Rain Today," Uriah Heep's "Lady In Black,” and "The Temple of the King" that Ritchie and the late Ronnie James Dio collaborated on originally for their band Rainbow.

DANCER AND THE MOON is made complete with its inspiring instrumentals, including the waltzy "Galliard" and the Deep Purple-esque "Carry On… Jon," that Ritchie wrote as a heartfelt tribute to his former band mate, the late Jon Lord.

DANCER AND THE MOON is a distinctive album, that is both melodic, rhythmic, and full of classic influences led by the dynamic and signature alto vocals of Candice Night and the phenomenal fret work of Ritchie Blackmore.

DANCER AND THE MOON continues to establish the band that has been growing its following steadily in the jam, pagan/wiccan scene, new age, folk and progressive worlds, as well as the classic rock community.

"So much has happened since our 2008 marriage (and the 2010's release of the duo's AUTUMN SKY album)," says Candice, as she and Ritchie have been musical and emotional partners since 1989.  In 2010 daughter Autumn Esmeralda was born, and then in 2012, their son, Rory.

Candice says, "We find that the DANCER AND THE MOON is visually and emotionally representative of how we feel about our music. We have always had a very strong pull to the mystery of the Moon. Her magic, her power, her legend... She affects us so deeply that we have named many CDs after her and she is almost always represented in our songs. The dancer gives herself completely, unabashedly and whole heartedly moved by the intensity of the music she feels within her soul."

Jann Klose's New Album MOSAIC Spring 2013

Singer/Guitarist/Songwriter in GREETINGS FROM TIM BUCKLEY Releases New Album, June 2013

Jann Klose’s new album MOSAIC, due June,  2013 can easily be called a sonic, lyrical and emotional mosaic from an artist, who is known as one with multi-cultural roots and an equally widely-faceted career and a voice that Public Radio’s Barb Heller says, “could sing the phonebook.”

GREETINGS FROM TIM BUCKLEY director Dan Algrant realized that when he hired Jann as a featured vocalist and guitarist in the movie that stars Penn Badgley and Imogen Poots. The film will be released April 16th, 2013 by Tribeca Film / Focus World.  Recently ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT Online interviewed Jann about the film.

Jann's album MOSAIC follows the indie success of REVERIE (2008) and SACRIFICE EP (2010) and the music video for DOING TIME. Produced by Grammy winner James Frazee (Esperanza Spalding, Blondie, My Morning Jacket) and David Bendeth (Paramore, Bruce Hornsby, Elvis Presley) MOSAIC was recorded between Fall 2011 and Winter of 2012/13.  Double GRAMMY-winner Warren Russell-Smith, mastered MOSAIC.

MOSAIC’s songs tackle personal and topical subjects and bring together a variety of instruments, musical and lyrical styles from street influences of reggae and punk to calypso, to classic rock, and the folk and Afro-beat that has addicted fans of all ages to Jann’s music. Songs include Jann’s originals, “Still,” “Make It Better,” “Four Leaf Clover,” “On and On,” “Falling Tears,” and a playful duet “Beautiful One” with Rounder Records’  Carrie Newcomer. The album ends with a stunning a cappella cover of Tim Buckley’s “Song To The Siren.”  Jann’s band The Edukators, Chris Marolf on bass and banjo, drummers Rob Mitzner and Patrick Carmichael, keyboardist/accordionist Lars Potteiger, and violinist Leah Potteiger worked on the album and contributed to the arrangements.  Other featured guests include guitarists Florian Opahle (Ian Anderson, Greg Lake) David Bendeth, flautist Tia Roper and oboist Megan Marolf  (Phillip Glass, Roger Waters).

Jann’s been as comfortable performing with pop and folk singer-songwriters from THE VOICE’s Rebecca Loebe and Brett Dennen to Suzanne Vega and Pete Seeger, as he has with jam bands including his friends in Rusted Root and songwriting partner Gary Lucas.  He’s performed with acts rooted in jazz and blues such as Vonda Shepard, Michael Kaeshammer and the late Les Paul, and classical rockers Renaissance (both with Annie Haslam and the group’s co-founder Jim McCarty, also of The Yardbirds). Critics have placed him in the chamber pop as well as the singer-songwriter genres, and Jann welcomes their varied reflections, “There are no limits when it comes to making music.  I’m defined by who I am and what I do, not how some marketing executive pigeonholes me.  It’s melodic, lyrical, and rhythmic music.  Music is about what the listener hears.”

Born in Germany, raised in Kenya, South Africa, and Hamburg, Jann came to the States as an exchange student in Cleveland, and performed in a wide range of musical projects including the Cleveland Opera Chorus, touring productions of Broadway shows (JEKYLL & HYDE, JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR) as well as portraying The Pinball Wizard in THE WHO’S TOMMY before he started his band.

Jann’s music is heard on the GRAMMY-nominated HEALTHY FOOD FOR THOUGHT, on MTV CRIBS, the movie “Dead Broke” (Warner Bros.) featuring Paul Sorvino. He maintains a steady touring schedule of about 75-100 shows a year in the U.S., Europe and Asia.

Partnering with the largest non-profits in the world of epilepsy, Candlelight Concerts for Epilepsy Awareness is proud to announce the first nation-wide epilepsy awareness endeavor – 50 Concerts in 50 States. It’s a network of coordinated live events over one weekend in March 2013.
Candlelight Concerts, along with Epilepsy Foundation (www.EFA.org ), CURE: Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy (www.CureEpilepsy.org ), Team Epilepsy ((www.TeamEpilepsy.com ) and Doose Syndrome Epilepsy Alliance (www.DooseSyndrome.org ), are standing united to raise epilepsy awareness on this single weekend in March.
At each event, volunteers will be present to distribute information regarding epilepsy (a 16 page book prepared specifically for these events), provide access to services, answer questions and raise donations – all of which will go directly to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Events will vary in size from intimate house concerts with 20-40 attendees to 18,000+ seat arena shows with nationally known touring artists. Artists from all genres – classic rock, folk, jazz, singer/songwriters, orchestras, electronic, comedians, plays and more. All with the same objective, to distribute information and raise epilepsy awareness. All genres, all volunteers involved with the singular purpose to change the way the world sees and understands epilepsy.
This national network of events grows out of Candlelight Concerts for Epilepsy Awareness – a webcast house concert series based in Pennington NJ. Started and run by Eric Miller, whose wife Carolina, passed away in August 2011 at the age of 25 as a result of epilepsy. Since that time, Eric has worked tirelessly to raise epilepsy awareness in her honor and in honor of all those living with or lost to epilepsy. The series has featured such amazing artists as Corey Glover of Living Colour, Eric Bazilian, Chris Barron, The Young Dubliners, Dan Reed, Mary Fahl, and many others. This network of events takes that model and raises it to a national level on a single weekend.
MORE STATES AND DATES WILL BE ADDED.

Emily Hurd Introduces Stone Blind Valentine, February 14

Emily Hurd introduces her new band, Stone Blind Valentine (also known as SBV), with the independent release of the album BURN LIKE A FIELD.  The album will be available through iTunes, the band’s website (http://www.stoneblindvalentine.com ), and live shows.

SBV is the acoustic project of longtime Chicago musicians Emily Hurd, Colby Maddox, and Gregg Ostrom.  Gritty lyrics and unruly guitar get a layer of polish from bright mandolin and sharp fiddle licks. The group treads on bluegrass while digging into rock and early American country. BURN LIKE A FIELD was recorded live at Chicago's King Size Sound Labs.

Like all good mountain music, SBV builds their tunes with strong singing, nature imagery, and a lot of twang, but their Chicago roots are unmistakable in BURN LIKE A FIELD.   The bluesy guitar and industrial groove in "Extra Extra" thump defiantly as Hurd belts out "Honey, I can read you like the Sunday Morning Times; I can see you're lying by the headlines in your eyes."  The group sings in three-part harmony about simple city days in "Crown The Kings," and "Whiskey Neat" sounds like late-night Bourbon Street in the July.

The songs on BURN LIKE A FIELD were penned by Emily, the lead vocalist, piano and banjo player.  A critically acclaimed songwriter, her music has appeared on NPR and TV’s NCIS.  The tunes were then brought to life by Gregg Ostrom (guitar, vocals) and Colby Maddox (mandolin, fiddle, guitar, and vocals).  SBV called on close friend and producer John Abbey to play upright bass on the album.

The BURN LIKE A FIELD recording sessions were filmed and photographed by the crew of Carla Englof Productions.  When the album is released, the video "Extra Extra" can be seen on Youtube and the band's web site: http://stoneblindvalentine.com

The BURN LIKE A FIELD album cover was designed by Chicago artist Dolan Geiman.  Dolan is a nationally recognized mixed media artist creating original paintings, collages, constructions, and limited-edition reproductions. Produced from salvaged wood, found objects, and other recycled materials, his eco-friendly artwork emerges from a folk art tradition infused with a contemporary, urban style.

BURN LIKE A FIELD will be released to the public at two shows.  On February 16th, 2013, SBV will play at 7:30 pm at The Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center in Rockford, IL.  On February 17th, SBV performs at 2:00 pm at S.P.A.C.E. in Evanston, IL.  Tickets are available on the band’s website.
